Travelling to Greece
The sun is shining, resorts are now operating as normal and the Greeks want your business. With the banking system up and running again (from July 20), you can once again access euros without too much trouble from banks and ATMS. However, you may wish to take plenty of cash in euros for your holiday. You can then still buy food and drink and enjoy normal holiday expenditure in case of any short-term ATM shortages.
Ideally, you should also try to ensure you have low denomination notes as getting change may become difficult if banks close for any period of time. Avoid taking any notes of €100 or higher and try and avoid €50s where you can – many retailers do not have change in low notes.
The Greeks, as always, are super hospitable. The politics are just that, politics and they have no influence on the tourist experience. The main thing to know is that the Greeks want you there and they really do need tourism, right now.
The Greek Referendum
We are very pleased to see that the overnight meetings in Brussels have concluded with a deal reached to keep Greece in the Euro.
Life on the islands and resorts really has been going on as normal with no visible impact from the negotiations, hopefully the result of the talks will restore confidence in travellers and send the clear message that Greece is open for business and ready to welcome guests with open arms.
We are still recommending guests departing in the next few days to take enough Euros with them to cover the duration of their trip, although cash machines are still stocked.
