Rome, the 'eternal city', exerts an enduring fascination on all who visit. With its multitude of ancient monuments, exciting legends and as a place of spiritual pilgrimage, the atmosphere is alive with reminders of all the Roman Emperors. Soak up the Italian ambience and admire architectural masterpieces in the capital city of vespas, designer clothes and long lunches.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but our guided tour certainly reveals her treasures within just that. Crossing Piazza della Repubblica with the fountain of the Nayad, we stroll through the historic centre to admire the Trevi Fountain, La Colonna di Marco Aurelio, the Palazzo di Montecitorio, Palazzo Madama and Piazza Navona, before arriving at the Vatican City. Step inside St. Peter's Basilica to admire incredible works of art such as Michelangelo's 'La Pieta' and Bernini's bronze canopy.
People in Rome encapsulate the spirit of the city. Pass a central cafe and the tables outside are animated with people, downing fast shots of espresso and sporting big black sunglasses. Sample fresh pasta, oven-baked pizzas, refreshing gelato and local wine; to eat is to experience! Aside from the pleasure of eating, make time to stroll along the Via del Corso, which cuts through the length of the city and takes us to the elegant shopping streets, including Via Condotti, the Bond Street of Rome. No visit to Rome is complete without a visit to the famous Sistine Chapel, a wander around the Colosseum and a descent of the Spanish Steps; museums and galleries beckon too. Don't feel like going to a museum? Perhaps there's no need when it's all outside on the streets.
