MS Roald Amundsen MS Fridtjof Nansen Lofoten Norway HGR 118200

Further ship information

Named after the Norwegian explorer who became the first man to cross Antarctica and reach the South Pole, MS Roald Amundsen is packed with state of the art technology and high tech gadgets. Its immersive edutainment area will be the place guests and staff/crew meet, mingle and create a deeper understanding for the areas they explore. Scandinavian materials from nature, such as granite, oak, birch and wool will be used to create relaxed and stylish cabins and public areas, and the ship will feature three restaurants inspired by Nordic and Norwegian heritage.

Ship profile

Powered by hybrid technology, the 20,889gtr MS Roald Amundsen and its effective use of electricity on board will reduce fuel consumption and CO2-emissions on the ship by 20%. Built in 2019, she is capable of carrying 530 passengers and measures 140cm in length.

MS Roald Amundsen will feature three restaurants inspired by Nordic and Norwegian heritage. Aune Main Dining is named after the Norwegian ship chandler and polar expedition supplier Tinus Aune, while Fredheim - the ships’ informal and social meeting place – was named after a 1900s hunting station on Svalbard. The third restaurant on-board is Lindstrøm, a speciality restaurant named after the favourite chef of the Norwegian polar heroes.

MS Roald Amundsen has her own onboard Expedition Team and serves as a university at sea. Interesting lectures, presentations and activities inside the ship as well as out on the sun deck make this an exciting and educational journey. The Expedition Team hosts a lecture and presentations programme and evening gatherings daily. Out on deck you may participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture and other phenomena we encounter along the coast.
