Italy is without doubt one of the most beautiful countries in the world with hugely varied scenery, stunning cuisine and a warm welcome, oozing with style.  Here are our top tips for things to do in Italy!

Take a drive or a tour on the Amalfi Coast road. The views from the road that snakes along this stretch of coastline are without doubt some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring in the world. The towns you’ll see along the way are equally as wonderful - ancient Amalfi, steep-stepped Positano, Ravello and of course Sorrento which sits at the gateway to the beautiful Neapolitan Riviera.

Just a ferry or short train ride away from Sorrento is the bustling industrial hub of Naples. Home to some of the biggest working-class districts in Italy, ‘Napoli’ is also famed for being the place where pizza was invented so it really should be sampled in this city.

Soak up the history of Rome. Stand on the cobblestones of the Roman Forum, take in the majesty of the Pantheon and take a guided tourof the Colosseum, which provided spectacular if bloody entertainment for the masses in its day.

Take a look at the famous sight on the island of Capri which is the Blue Grotto. This natural cavern is 25 metres wide by 60 long and accessible only by lying back in a tiny rowing boat to allow you to glide through the cave mouth. Once inside the intense blue hue of the crystal waters will astound you.

Watch the world go by in Siena’s famed sloping square and social hub, the Piazza del Campo. Built on the site of a former Roman marketplace, the Campo is still the undoubted heart of the city. The legendary twice-yearly horse race, Palio di Siena, is held around the edges of the Piazza.

See Venice the way it was meant to be discovered, by taking a gondola ride through its maze of backstreet canals overlooked by beautiful bridges and stunning Baroque buildings. If you’re lucky you might also have a musical accompaniment.Visit a country within a city and experience the Vatican City and see the wonders of the Vatican Museums. Not to be missed is the Sistine Chapel, the most famous painted ceiling on earth.

Make like George and Amal Clooney and escape to the beautiful Lake Como region. There is so much to see and experience here, from numerous stunning waterfront villas, to the picturesque town of Ballagio and charming Como itself, with its long history, bustling streets and waterfront.

Milan might be one of the fashion capitals of the world but it’s also famed for its elaborate Gothic cathedral, the Duomo di Milano, that sits proudly overlooking its main square. And if that’s not enough – then there’s always those wonderful shops!

Visit the Uffizi Gallery inFlorence.  Originally built in 1581, it now houses some of the greatest masterpieces in the world and has been called the ‘heart of the Renaissance.’
