With so many ski resorts in Europe to choose from, booking your first ski holiday can be daunting. The last thing you want is to feel trapped by Black slopes with barely any Blue routes in sight!

To help make sure you find the perfect resort for you, we've made a list of some of the best ski resorts in Europe for beginners.

1) Borovets, Bulgaria

Situated south of Sofia on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain range, Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest and most popular ski resort. Surrounded by spectacular alpine views and offering skiers a mountain range where 50% of pistes are Green or Blue, this is the perfect place for nervous novices to put skis to snow for the very first time.

The resort is also home to over 200 professional ski instructors who will help you learn the ropes for a reasonable price. And when the skiing is over, the fun doesn't end! Borovets is a town famous for its lively après-ski scene, and has been coined one of Europe’s greatest party hot-spots.

2) Adelboden, Switzerland

One of Switzerland's top ski resorts, Adelboden is a popular haunt for first-time skiers and intermediates looking to improve their technique. The main ski area lies between the traditional and tranquil Swiss mountain villages of Adelboden and Lenk, where 185km of piste awaits! Almost half of the slopes you'll find here will be Green or Blue, which, unlike other well-known resorts, are rarely overcrowded.

And if you need to rest your legs, on your days off there is also the opportunity to try your hand at other winter pursuits such as tobogganing and ice skating.

3) Courchevel/La Tania, France

La Tania is a ski resort sandwiched between Courchevel and Meribel in the heart Les Trois Vallees - one of Europe's largest and finest ski areas. With over 600km of piste to play with, 44% of which are Green and Blue slopes, this is the perfect place for beginners to get to grips with life on two skis.

Anyone booking a ski holiday here is guaranteed plenty of snow; with an altitude of up to 3,200m and over 2,000 snow cannons, Les Trois Vallees boasts superb snow all season. For this reason, the ski area is known for having some of the best snow conditions in the whole of the Alps!

4) Marilleva/Folgarida, Italy

Nestled in the cosy village of Folgarida and just 200m away from the ski lift, this resort invites skiers to explore the vast 150km slopes of Folgarida, Marilleva and Madonna di Campiglio. Folgarida is better known for its varied and extensive alpine skiing than for its lively après-ski scene. However, there will be plenty of opportunities to pause for a warming bombardino drink, refreshing beer or a shot of local grappa along the way.

Just under half of the pistes here are Green or Blue, making it the perfect place for beginners, and an abundance of red runs also gives you chance to challenge yourself nearer the end of the week if you wish!

5) Going, Austria

Part of Austria’s expansive, interconnected SkiWelt area, this resort offers skiers 279km of pistes - 35% of which are Green and Blue slopes.

The SkiWelt area is a skier's paradise. Connecting 8 Tyrolean villages in total, it's home to a huge range of wide and open Blue runs, allowing even inexperienced skiers to enjoy a ski safari from village to village. The resort also has plenty of gentle nursery slopes at village level, close to the resort centre. These are served by six drag lifts, and are accompanied by three well-regarded ski schools that are guaranteed to get you off to a good start.
