Solo cruises have never been so popular. With no-one to worry about other than yourself, cruising alone invites you to relax as the world lands at your feet. If you've never tried a solo cruise before, don't worry - you're in for a treat! But before you go, read our top tips for making the most out of your solo cruising experience.

Board with a smile

Start your solo cruise as you mean to go on! Greet your fellow cruisers and crew with a beaming smile and you'll be remembered as friendly and approachable from day one.

If travelling solo is a completely new experience for you, this will help ease your nerves too. Smiling has been scientifically proven to relieve stress and actually make you feel happier and more relaxed, so by starting your holiday with a smile you'll be instantly putting yourself at ease.

Join some excursions

The optional excursions available to you at every port of call are a great chance to get to know your cruisers in a more intimately sized group, and to see the wonderful destinations you're travelling to.

Share your experiences with travellers you've met on-board and use this opportunity to strike up new conversations with ones you haven't.

Make friends with the staff

It's not just your fellow cruise customers you're sharing your holiday with; there will be hundreds of friendly staff members on board your cruise ship too. Every attentive crew member is there to make your cruise experience the best it can possibly be, and that includes making solo cruisers like you feel comfortable, relaxed and at home.

Chat to your masseuse and get to know the barman in your favourite bar; you never know how the people you meet will affect your holiday - and your life - further down the line.

Get involved

Cruises are known for their non-stop entertainment and endless reel of activities, day and night. If you want to meet people and make friends, there really isn't a better environment to do so!

Get up on stage during a magic show, sing your heart out at karaoke, or take part in a pool deck competition. The chances are you’ll never see many of these people again, so why not throw yourself into something you’d never try at home?

Many cruise lines even organise solo cruiser get-togethers; be sure to check with your cruise line before travelling whether there are any solo-specific activities or events to put in your diary.

....but find some peace and quiet too

While a cruise presents you with an almost limitless supply of opportunities to socialise and mingle with your fellow cruisers, there's a good chance you'll fancy some alone time too.

Every cruise ship has its quieter spots, whether that be by the pool in the early evening or on the stern of the ship at sunrise. Take a minute to escape the crowds and reflect on your solo cruise experience; at the end of the day, your holiday is yours and no-one else's. It's your chance to unwind and dedicate some undivided time to yourself, so make the most of every moment!

At Solos, we've partnered up with a variety of cruise lines to bring you a huge selection of solo cruise holidays, many of which include the company of a Solos Tour Leader with groups of 8 and over. We've just launched Cruise Solos: the dedicated cruise section of our website. Take a look and find your perfect solo cruise today!
