There are some trips that are simply too good to miss. From safari adventures in Kenya to exploring the rustling rainforests of Peru, here's a list of the world's most thrilling destinations everyone should visit at least once in their life.

1) New England, USA

Dating back to 1620, when English pilgrims first stepped ashore in Cape Cod, New England is the birthplace of America as we know it.

From the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire to the stunning coastline of Cape Cod, the region also boasts some of the USA's most picturesque scenery. This is only made more beautiful when you factor in the fiery fall foliage that, for two months a year, carpets the landscape with a rainbow of golden, red and yellow leaves.

2) Australia

Australia is fantastically diverse. Technicolour coral reefs, world-class cities, white-sand beaches, tropical rainforests and an Outback the size of India make way for bundles of exotic wildlife - much of which can't be found anywhere else.

Perhaps it's down to their enviable beach culture or brilliant weather, but Aussies are known for their relaxed and laid-back attitude to life. This is yet another incentive to visit; after a long flight, you'll be welcomed in with a warm smile and a bottle of Victoria Bitter - Australia's finest lager.

3) Kenya

Going on safari is an experience on most travellers' bucket lists - and what better place to do it than Kenya?

If you come here to see wildlife, you won't be disappointed. On top of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and Cape buffalo), a Kenyan safari drive will bring you face-to-face with herds of migrating wildebeest, zebra, flamingos in their thousands and plenty more.

As if that wasn't enough, Kenya's palm-fringed beaches, national parks and colourful culture mean you never have to do the same thing twice. Go on safari one day, and sip cocktails on the sand the next!

4) China

China has all the ingredients for the ultimate trip of a lifetime: blinking cities straight from a sci-fi movie, layer upon layer of temple-studded mountains, ancient Chinese antiquities and one of the Seven Wonders of the World - the Great Wall of China.

Take the high speed train, float through water towns and throw yourself into the fun and flurry of some of the world's biggest and busiest cities. A visit to China is like stepping into the past and whirling into the future on one exhilarating journey!

6) Indochina (Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia)

Joint at the hip and connected by the Mekong River, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia make up what is informally known as Indochina - three fascinating countries that were formerly colonised by France.

You can't see one without visiting the others; spend a day exploring the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, get lost in a whirl of motorbikes in Ho Chi Minh and swim in the crystal clear waterfalls of Luang Prabang. This beautiful trio is drenched in enough beauty and history to make it truly unforgettable, and well worth saving up for.

7) Costa Rica

A visit to Costa Rica is like stepping into Alice's Wonderland. It may be small, but this Central American treasure is easily one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, squeezing in over half a million species!

Head into its rustling rainforests and feast your eyes on weird and wonderful creatures and an entire colour spectrum of flora and fauna. Put your binoculars to good use in Monteverde Cloud Forest or on the hanging bridges of Arenal Volcano National Park, where you’ll be treated to a bird's view of the rainforest and all the species that live there.

8) Antarctica

If you've ever marvelled at David Attenborough's Frozen Planet documentary and wished you could take his place, it's now easier than ever before.

Cross the Drake Passage in 2019 and travel to where few have travelled before. Touch ice-bergs with your bare hands and look out for waddling penguins, seals and - if you're lucky - a breaching whale.

A trip to Antarctica, the most unexplored and remote region on Earth, makes sure you leave no continent unexplored!

9) Oberammergau, Germany

Held only once every 10 years, Oberammergau's Passion Play has been captivating visitors for centuries.

The origins of the play date back to 1633 when the German village of Oberammergau was struck with the Great Plague. The inhabitants prayed for their lives to be spared, pledging an oath to perform a play every 10 years depicting the suffering and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Stunning Bavarian scenery and a centuries-old heritage combine to make The Passion Play an experience that hundreds of thousands of people - religious or not - come to Oberammergau to witness.

The next performance is in 2020 - will you be there to see it?

10) Japan

There are few counties which fuse old and new as elegantly as Japan. On the surface it may seem modern, efficient and immaculate, but the further out from the cities you travel the more tradition and culture you uncover.

Explore fluorescent cities and traditional villages, take a ride on the world-famous Bullet Train and soak up the breath-taking landscape which, at the right time of year, is peppered with pink cherry blossoms.
