Fringed by beautiful white-sand beaches and crammed with culture and centuries of history, Turkey's appeal extends to just about anyone. Thinking of travelling there solo? Here are the best things to do in Turkey on a holiday with Solos.

Relax on some of Europe's most beautiful beaches

Step aside Spain; it might surprise you to hear that Turkey has some of the most idyllic stretches of sand in the whole of the Mediterranean.

Set against a backdrop of lush, emerald mountains, the sugary-white beach and electric blue waters of Ölüdeniz's Blue Lagoon are the country's showstopper.

A holiday here will make you feel like you've stepped straight into a postcard. When you're not horizontal on the sand, there's plenty of beach-based activities to take part in. Ölüdeniz is one of Turkey's top destination for tandem paragliding, but if heights aren't your thing, why not search for turtles in the crystal clear lagoon?

Taking second place is Bodrum — a bustling beach resort on Turkey's Aegean Coast and a firm favourite amongst tourists looking for uninterrupted sun, sea and sand. Glistening beaches, whitewashed houses, historical sights and a huge selection of restaurants and bars await, making it simply impossible to get bored.

Set sail on a traditional Turkish gulet

A classic Turkish experience, gulet sailing is a great way to soak up the sunshine and impossibly blue waters of Turkey's shoreline, while venturing into an age-old nautical tradition that dates back centuries.

These picturesque sailing vessels are handcrafted from wood, feature either two or three masts and usually have four to eight cabins.

On our ClubSolos holiday in Ölüdeniz, which departs London Gatwick weekly from now until the end of October, a half-day Turkish gulet excursion is included in the package — a fabulous opportunity to get a feel for the authentic Turkish sailing experience!

Soak up the sights

Turkey has no shortage of sights to see, from ancient Roman ruins and iconic monuments to otherworldly landscapes taken straight from a fairytale.

A day or two of sightseeing can be easily incorporated into a relaxing beach break. Take a day off from Bodrum’s glistening beaches and travel north to the ancient Roman city of Ephesus. Once home to over 250,000 inhabitants, the city was the fourth largest in the Roman Empire and, although only 15% of the site has been unearthed, it’s still the largest excavated area in the world.

While you’re there, don't miss the Artemis Temple — one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World!

Enjoy a game of golf with the sun on your back

The golfing scene in Turkey is huge — and steadily growing each year.

One of the best resorts for golfers to base themselves is Belek, a town on Turkey's south-western coast. Known for its pristine white beaches, historic sites and exquisite golf courses and hotels, you'll find that championship-level green courses right on your doorstep here, wherever you decide to stay.

A total of 14 courses are dotted around the area’s indigenous pine forests, making good use of the region’s wonderful year-round climate.
