Our ski holidays have always been popular with the Solos’ community; giving our guests the opportunity to hit the slopes and soak up the après-ski scene with other solos in an array of hotspots, including Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy. But how skilled at skiing do you need to be to join one of our holidays and what equipment and clothing do you need?

Skill levels

Our ski holidays are categorised by levels of difficulty, which act as a useful guide when choosing the right ski trip. This includes resorts for beginners and intermediates which are perfect for first-time skiers because of their ski schools, nursery slopes and gentle green and blue runs. Intermediates will also relish the good range of red runs on offer at these resorts, and there may even be a small selection of black runs available.

We also have resorts for intermediates and advanced skiers, featuring a variety of red runs as well as a selection of exciting short or narrow black runs. Mogul fields may also be present, enabling you to hone your tight parallel turns to perfection.

Finally, our holidays categorised for all skiers feature a variety of runs and slopes that cater for all levels of ability above.

If you’ve never skied before, you may be interested in signing-up to our UK Ski Weekend (begins 17th November 2018) for lessons with other solos on the fabulous dry ski slopes at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead – novice skiers are welcome to join us and hit the slopes independently too!

Equipment and clothing

Ski equipment such as skis, boots and poles can typically be hired at our featured resorts for an additional fee (check the ‘Useful information’ section of the holiday listings on our website for further information about this).

And what to wear on a Solos ski holiday? Dress is generally very informal, with the emphasis being on comfort and warmth. We recommend that you pack a pair of skiing trousers and warm ski jacket or a waterproof shell and separate fleece lining or an all-in-one ski suit. We also suggest bringing thermal or silk underwear, cotton/cotton mix roll necks, T-shirts or sweat shirts (several thin layers are better than one thick layer), ski socks, ski gloves or mitts and a hat or headband.

Where temperatures are expected to be well below zero, take a facemask or balaclava. Moon boots or waterproof walking shoes are vital. Suntan cream (high-protective factor), lip salve, sunglasses and/or goggles are all very useful items to pack, too. Casual clothes are ideal for the evenings; it is unusual on skiing holidays to dress formally in the evenings.
