About this holiday

One of the best places to spend Christmas in Italy is Venice. With a week to explore and a spattering of lovely inclusions over the festive period, our new Italian Christmas tour has a traditional feel yet offers something for everyone.

Guided Tours

Based near beautiful St Mark’s Square, we spend our time sightseeing and exploring the historical centre of Venice including the opulent mosaics, statues and marble walls of Basilica of San Marco an the Doge’s Palace. A museum since 1923, the palace was once the residence of the Doge of Venice. Our second walking tour showcases the typical quarters of the city with their beautiful lanes and bridges. Here we can discover La Fenice, Scala del Bovolo and Il Rialto: the oldest of four bridges spanning the Grand Canal.

A day in Verona

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, and also known as Piccola Roma (little Rome), the enchanting city of Verona straddling the Adige river in northern Italy has so much to offer. With a day tip included by train, we can explore this city's squares, bridges and odd creative masterpiece. December sees the entrance to the city illuminated by hundreds of lights which flow into the streets of the centre. Piazza dei Signori plays host to the exquisite ‘Christkindlmarkt’, full to the brim with wooden huts offering traditional crafts and decorations, gifts and of course delicious local specialities and desserts.

A day in Padua

Padua is a picturesque city with arcaded streets that lead into open squares, and is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Take the train out of Venice and discover the Scrovegni Chapel with its beautiful frescoes by Giotto as well as the local markets. Open every day except Sunday, we can get a real taster of life with friendly locals and vendors.

Useful Information

Transfer time

The transfer time for the main tour between Venice Airport and the hotel is approximately 1 hour, depending on the traffic.

We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum £30.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

Included programme

A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.

Dress code

The dress code for during the day is casual. In the evenings the dress code is smart with gentlemen requested to wear a shirt and tie. Comfortable shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.

NB: A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling, sometimes with early starts.
