What’s Extra
We depart the UK for our overnight flight to Bangkok.
After we land in Bangkok International Airport, we will transfer to our hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to start exploring this bustling city at leisure. Perhaps you might like to indulge yourself with a traditional Thai Massage, surprise your taste buds with the amazing local flavours and cap off the day by enjoying the sunset in any of the stylish rooftop bars that have blossomed in the city’s skyscrapers in recent years… the options are limitless.
Today’s tour includes three of the most important Buddhist temples in Bangkok. Wat Traimit, also known as the temple of the Golden Buddha which houses a 3-metre tall statue made from solid gold and weighing in at 5.5 tonnes. We then pass through Chinatown on our way to Wat Pho, the temple of the Reclining Buddha and home to the Chedis of the Kings. At 46 metres in length and 15 metres high, the Buddha is the largest in Bangkok and illustrates the passing of the Buddha into nirvana. Next, we make our way to the Grand Palace*, one of the most beautiful samples of an ancient Siamese royal court and used to be the residence of the kings of Bangkok. Here you will see palaces which were used for different occasions including the Funeral Palace, the Reception Palace, the Throne Hall, the Coronation Hall, the Royal Guesthouse and Wat Phra Kaew – the beautiful Emerald Buddha temple.
We depart Bangkok after breakfast at the hotel and head to Maeklong Railway Market, also known as Talad Rom Hoop. Upon arrival, our guide will introduce you to the history of this area. Then we go on to the world-famous floating market of “Damnoen Saduak”, there are countless floating markets throughout the country, the colourfully clad merchants at these lively markets paddle along congested canals in sturdy canoes laden with fresh fruits and vegetables to sell to shoppers on the banks. This is an exciting and fun way to see the local life and to go bargain hunting. We then transfer back to Bangkok.
After breakfast at our hotel we transfer to the airport for our flight to Chiang Mai. After we have arrived at our hotel in Chiang Mai we meet our guide for a tour of the old town and the city’s main temples. We visit the historic Wat Suan Dok and admire its 48-metre-high Sri Lankan-style chedi, which overlooks the Royal Cemetery. Continue to Wat Phra Sing in the old town and appreciate the beauty of this large complex of more than 60 buildings before visiting 14th century Wat Chedi Luang in the very heart of the old city. This ancient temple has a more rustic appearance and has been restored after decades of decay.
Breakfast is early at the hotel before heading into the jungle to become acquainted with Thailand’s national animal during a visit to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. The care centre was established to provide care for elderly elephants retired from logging and camps. Appreciate these gentle giants, learn more about their nature, their individual traits, their lifestyles, their talents and their charms. If time is right, watch them play during their bath-time. We can even join in by brushing the elephants while they bath!
Lunch will be at a local restaurant. Lunch is followed by our visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep to enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the city. The temple is reached by climbing a 309-step naga staircase or via cable car (included). If the views are stunning, the temple itself is even better and boasts a number of dazzling structures. We continue to the bustling Wararot Market, a historical landmark renowned for the variety and quality of its products, before visiting the fragrant flower market.
After breakfast at the hotel before we check-out and depart from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai; on the way we stop at Mae Kachan hot spring; Wat Rong Khun, nicknamed the ‘White Temple’, a dazzling temple built in the 1990s. Its ornate all-white exterior with embedded pieces of mirror gives it a resplendent appearance, which makes it one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand. We continue to Chiang Rai, visit Chiang Sean for a panoramic view of the Golden Triangle where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet where the mighty River Mekong flows through. We hop on a boat and take a trip around the Golden Triangle on a boat ride lasting around 30 minutes. After, we enjoy lunch at the Imperial Golden Triangle Resort before transferring on to our hotel in Chiang Rai.
Today we make our way to Phuket, checking out after breakfast at the hotel to drive back to Chiang Mai (approx. 3hrs) for our direct flight to Phuket.

Day at leisure
Day at leisure
After breakfast we have some free time before we make our way to Phuket Airport for our journey home.
We stay in comfortable hotels throughout as detailed below (or similar);
The transfer time from Bangkok International Airport to your hotel in Bangkok is approximately 1 hour, depending on the traffic.
Visa
Nationals of the United Kingdom are eligible to travel to Thailand, for tourism purpose, with the exemption of visa and are permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days. Therefore, you do not need a visa.
Your passport must have at least 6 months’ validity remaining on the date of your entry into Thailand. Entry to Thailand is normally refused if you have a passport which is damaged or has pages missing. If you’re a dual national you must make sure that when you depart Thailand you have a valid passport of the nationality used to enter, otherwise you may have difficulty in leaving.
Immigration officials in Thailand may ask you for proof of onward travel (e.g. a return or onward air ticket). You should make all reservations before leaving for Thailand. Some airlines have refused to board passengers without evidence of onward travel. Immigration officials may also ask for evidence of adequate finances equivalent to 10,000 baht per person. Other visa types may have different requirements: you should check with the Thai Immigration Authority before travelling.

The emphasis is on casual clothing for throughout. Go for light, loose cotton clothing and comfortable shoes or walking boots. Conservative dress is preferred for both men and women. No shorts or vest tops in restaurants. When visiting temples and certain museums dress politely; shorts, singlets, spaghetti straps, skirts, tank-tops and open backed sandals are not acceptable. The dress code would be same for men and women, that is shoulders and legs covered, no hats, and shoes to be taken off.
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £30.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling.
