Today we will go on a 2.5-hour guided walking tour to explore Barcelona’s city centre, Rambla and the Gothic Quarter.

The long and lively promenade of La Rambla is Spain’s most famous boulevard, cutting through the heart of Barcelona. This wide boulevard connects the Plaça de Catalunya, known for its fountains and statues. Restaurants, cafés, market stalls and old-style shops line the boulevard along the way, plus you may find yourself being entertained by live music, dance performances and bewitching human statue art. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Barcelona individually.

  • Accommodation 3 * Hotel Lleo
  • MEALS Breakfast included

Today is free for you to spend however you wish. Relax at the hotel, or explore Barcelona’s historical sights and museums. The city is famous for its art and architecture, most notably due to the works of Gaudi and Picasso. Colourful buildings and mosaics are everywhere. Gaudi’s famous Sagrada Familia Church has been under construction since 1882 with completion only expected in 2026! Another impressive sight is Parc Güell, another work by Antoni Gaudi with its wonderful views of the city, which you can enjoy whilst enjoying a stroll among modernist art works.

Barcelona at its best

If you love culture but hate the crowds, you’ll adore a holiday to Barcelona in January. Although still enjoying a moderate temperature of around 15ºC, the cooler climate and quieter streets give you ample space to explore the city’s fascinating architecture, art and culture stress-free. Walk the long and lively La Rambla, the most famous boulevard in Spain, and discover the charming Gothic Quarter with its narrow medieval streets filled with trendy bars, clubs and restaurants.

Time to explore

As with all our city breaks, this whistle-stop tour of Spain’s second city gives you plenty of time to explore. After a fact-filled guided tour of the city centre, you’re free to discover the art, architecture and galleries here independently. Take a stroll by the magnificent Sagrada Família cathedral, which has been under construction since 1882, or visit the colourful and iconic Park Güell . You could even take a walk to Barcelona’s coastline, of which Barceloneta beach is the best known.

Useful Information

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Barcelona Airport to your hotel in Barcelona is approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on the traffic.

We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum £15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

Included Programme
A 2.5 hour guided visit of the centre of Barcelona is included in your touring package.

Dress Code
A warm jacket, sweater and scarf will keep you nice and toasty, whilst a small hand umbrella for emergencies never hurts (you can always buy one a store though if it does rain). You shouldn’t need any specialist footwear, beyond good walking shoes. Don’t forget your sunglasses because the winter sun can be quite low and bright, and a little harsh on the eyes.

Please note

  • A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required
  • The order of the itinerary and events may be subject to change

Passports and visas
A full 10-year passport is required valid for at least the duration of your stay. Holders of passports with the inscription “British Citizen” or “European Union” do not require a visa.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct visa, a valid passport and any other travel documents for your holiday. All information provided relates to British citizens who hold or are entitled to apply for a British passport. For the most up-to-date visa information please visit; Spain Foreign Advice
