Extras
Welcome to fabulous Bali! Upon arrival at Denpasar Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration, collect our luggage and transfer to the hotel in Ubud. The rest of our day is at leisure.
Today we will explore the surrounding area of Tampak Siring. Our first stop is Tegalalang rice terraces where we can admire magnificent views before visiting Kintamani with its view to Batur lake and volcano. We then continue to Tampak Siring area to visit Gunung Kawi Temple. The only way to the temple is walk down 300 steps on the stone steps. There are lots of shops and beautiful scenery we can enjoy before reach the bottom. It is worth the walk as the rock carvings are mesmerizing, with lots of beautiful photos opportunity as well. Later we will drive back to Ubud.
After breakfast, we will start our tour of Ubud and its surroundings. Our first stop is Batubulan, where we will enjoy a Barong dance performance. Watching a Barong dance is a great introduction to the world of Balinese dance which is often inspired by religion. The story is loosely derived from the Mahabharat and Ramayana, Indian stories with a huge influence on art, society and culture all over Asia. A Barong dance explains how the Balinese deal with Good and Evil, both universal powers which have to be continuously and carefully balanced. Batubulan is also famous for its stone carvers who sell their goods along roadside shops.
Today we will depart to Bali’s West Coast for a visit to Tanah Lot – the famous sea-side temple which has been defying the Indian Ocean for centuries. The landmark temple was built to commemorate the spread of Hinduism from Java to Bali many centuries ago. Sitting on an eroded rocky outcrop between the sea and the beach, it is quite a sight.
Later we will get into vintage cabrio VW cars and travel along forgotten villages, fairy-like temples and lush green rice fields to Jatiluwih – a beautiful area of verdant, terraced rice paddies nestled in the shadow of Mount Batukaru, the second highest peak of Bali. We will be driven by our own driver at a slow pace, while enjoying the enchanting Balinese scenery.
We will start off the day with a visit to the market of Gianyar, a city just 10 kilometers northeast of the glitz of Ubud, but decades away in time. It’s a flight of imagination back into the mystery and magic of the East. A stroll through the local market is one of the most enjoyable ways to connect with the foundations of a culture that goes back several thousands of years. Here we will see how the villagers sell many kinds of foods, fresh vegetables, fruits and meat, clothes, ceremonial equipment, flowers offering and all kinds of daily needs. After a simple local lunch, we will walk through the village and learn more about traditional house architecture. The most important part is the house temple, inevitably pointing towards the mountains. It is amazing how Balinese keep their buildings consistently in line with religious principles.
Today we will explore the eastern part of Bali and visit Tirta Gangga Water Palace. This water garden was built in 1948, blending Balinese and Chinese styles. The water comes from one of the nearby natural springs. The place has always been regarded as holy. Tirta means blessed water, gangga cames from Ganges, the holy river in India.
We will continue our tour by driving through mountainous routes to the Besakih Temple which is built against the southern slope of Gunung Agung, a sacred mountain for the Balinese. A sprawling complex of shrines, dedicated to an unknown number of gods, constitutes the religious center of Bali.
Your time in Sanur is at your leisure.
Sanur Beach is a former fishing village that has managed to cling on to its charm and wealth of arts and culture. The waters of Sanur are protected by a long string of offshore reefs, creating large, warm shallow, safe lagoons that are perfectly clear and excellent for swimming, snorkelling and a whole array of watersports. Sanur is also a great place to walk. Distances are not far, the streets are relatively quiet and there is a splendid, paved beachfront path which runs the whole length of the district.
After breakfast your day is at leisure until we will transfer to the airport for our return flight home. Hotel check out is at midday, however the hotel concierge will store your luggage until you leave and all the general facilities of the hotel are available to you during this time.
We stay in comfortable hotels throughout as detailed below (or similar)

Please note
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.
Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of £50.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % add on.
Indonesian Rupiah
You can take Euros, US dollars and Pound Sterling as there are a lot of exchange places in Ubud and Sanur.
Casual daytime medium-weight “layers” are recommended. Comfortable shoes are a “must” for sightseeing.
We recommend to dress as modestly as possible, especially when visiting temples. When paying a visit to a Balinese temple, both men and women are expected to wear shirts that cover shoulders and part of the upper arms.
The following leg coverings are mandatory for both men and women preparing to enter a Balinese temple:
These items are usually rented out at most temple entrances, but you’re absolutely free to bring your own.
Smart, casual wear for the evenings would be acceptable.
