Welcome to the beautiful city of Bologna! After arriving at Bologna Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration and collect our luggage before heading to our hotel in Bologna for a Solos welcome drink and dinner.

  • Accommodation 3 * Cavour Hotel
  • MEALS Dinner included

After breakfast we will begin our guided walking tour of Bologna.

We will walk to Piazza Maggiore which is the central square in Bologna and has many medieval buildings and also a fountain with a statue of Neptune – one of Bologna’s symbols. We will see some impressive buildings from the outside such as Palazzo Comunale (city hall), Biblioteca Salaborsa, Palazzo Re Enzo (King Enzo's Palace) and Basilica di San Petronio. Our next stop is Archiginnasio of Bologna - one of the most important buildings in the city of Bologna; once the main building of the University of Bologna, which currently houses the Archiginnasio Municipal Library and the Anatomical Theatre.

We will continue our tour walking along the market streets, which are must in Bologna. Because it's in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna, widely considered the greatest food-producing region of Italy, Bologna is nicknamed La Grassa – the fat one – which is also a play on the city's prosperous economy.

We will finish our tour under the Two Towers of Bologna, which are the landmark of the city.

The rest of the day is free for you to explore Bologna independently.

Bologna has a vibrant cultural life and is home to many well-known museums and art galleries. You can visit the most famous in town – MamBo - museum of modern art of Bologna (approx. €6), which is one of the coolest contemporary art galleries in Italy. It displays a large collection of artworks by Giorgio Morandi (one of the greatest Italian painters of the 20th century) and other artists, such as Renato Guttuso.

  • Accommodation 3 * Cavour Hotel
  • MEALS Breakfast included

Today is free for you to spend however you wish. The city of Bologna is easy to get around on foot. Why not go on a food journey? Enjoy Bologna’s must try specialities such as Green Lasagna, Tortellini al Brodo, Tagliatelle al Ragu and try out one of the city’s specialities — Pignoletto, a white wine with delicate fruity notes.

Alternatively, you can visit Mercato delle Erbe, which is a market that’s been open since 1910. As well as stalls selling vegetables, meat, fish, flowers etc there are also three areas with restaurants.

Or you can climb the 498 steps to the top of the Torre degli Asinelli and enjoy stunning views of Bologna. Advance reservation is mandatory, and you can buy your ticket (approx. €5) at the Bologna Tourist Office on Piazza Maggiore 1/e or online at this website. You’ll need to select day and time of visit.

Bologna is a university town and actually has the oldest university in Europe. The university area has a great vibe as well as beautiful old buildings. Bologna is also famous for its arches, which you can find all over the city so always remember to look up!

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Bologna Airport to your hotel in Bologna is approximately 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum £15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions.
