Welcome to amazing Thailand! Upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration, collect our luggage and transfer to our hotel in Bangkok.

In the afternoon we will take a boat trip on the Chao Phaya River, otherwise known as ‘The River of Kings’, and the famous Canals of Bangkok (Klongs) where we can witness the traditional lifestyle of those who live in houses set on stilts in the water. We will make a stop at the Artist village before returning to our hotel for a welcome drink and dinner. Overnight Bangkok.

After breakfast at our hotel we will begin our Bangkok city tour, starting with a visit to Wat Trimit, the Golden Buddha Temple in China Town. This impressive Buddha Statue is 3 meters high and consists of 5½ tons of gold, making it the most valuable Buddha in the country. We will then take a walk through the Flower Market before visiting Wat Pho, the reclining Buddha Temple by the Chao Phraya River. The statues here can measure up to 46 meters long!

The afternoon is then free for you to explore Bangkok independently. Overnight Bangkok

After breakfast and checking out from our hotel, we will leave for the city of Kanchanaburi where the famous Bridge over the River Kwai is located.

Here we will visit the War Museum and the cemetery where hundreds of POWs (prisoners of war) and allied soldiers are resting. During our time here we’ll learn about the history of Thailand during the Second World War, when the country was under Japanese occupation. Later we will enjoy lunch served on a floating raft, while being pulled by longtail boats downstream the river, before continuing to our jungle resort located by the River Kwai. For the last 10 minutes of our journey, we will be transported by the so-called ‘James Bond boats’ or longtailed speed boats. Dinner tonight will be enjoyed at our hotel in Kanchanaburi. Overnight Kanchanaburi

  • Accommodation 3 * River Kwai Resotel

Useful Information

Visa
British passport holders arriving by air or land can enter Thailand for 30 days without a visa - this is known as a visa exemption. More info.

Passport validity
Your passport must have at least 6 months’ validity remaining on the date of your entry into Thailand. Entry to Thailand is normally refused if you have a passport which is damaged or has pages missing. If you’re a dual national you must make sure that when you depart Thailand you have a valid passport of the nationality used to enter, otherwise you may have difficulty in leaving.

Proof of onward travel and funds
Immigration officials in Thailand may ask you for proof of onward travel (e.g. a return or onward air ticket). You should make all reservations before leaving for Thailand. Some airlines have refused to board passengers without evidence of onward travel. Immigration officials may also ask for evidence of adequate finances equivalent to 10,000 baht per person. Other visa types may have different requirements: you should check with the Thai Immigration Authority before travelling.

Yellow fever certificate requirements
Check whether you need a yellow fever certificate by visiting the National Travel Health Network and Centre’s TravelHealthPro website.

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to your hotel in Bangkok is approximately 1 hour, depending on the traffic.

Currency

Thai baht

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £30.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

Included Programme
A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.

Optional Excursions
You may wish to take an optional excursion during the course of your stay. Full details and exact prices will be given at the Information Meeting. Your Tour Leader will help arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you.

  • Rock Valley Hot Spring and Fish Spa in Kanchanaburi - THB 700 per person.

Dress Code
The emphasis is on casual clothing for throughout. Go for light, loose cotton clothing and comfortable shoes or walking boots. Conservative dress is preferred for both men and women. No shorts or vest tops in restaurants. When visiting temples and certain museums dress politely; shorts, singlets, spaghetti straps, skirts, tank-tops and open backed sandals are not acceptable. The dress code would be same for men and women, that is shoulders and legs covered, no hats, and shoes to be taken off.

Please note
A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling, some with early starts.
