From Aracena, we ride along lovely bridle paths used long ago by mule drivers and smugglers. We cross the beautiful countryside where our route takes us past oak forests, different types of Mediterranean shrubland, streams and rivers leading to the lake reservoir of Aracena.  Along the way we stop off at various viewpoints such as Puerto Moral where the views open up over the spectacular mountainous landscapes of this sierra. While we are here, we can take advantage and visit the small and charming botanical gardens full of aromatic plants and a traditional mill. We continue along the Odiel River, passing through villages including Corteconcepción which has been declared of historic-artistic interest due to the well conserved examples of traditional local architecture. Sierra de Aracena by E-bike
This week of cycling is a perfect way to explore the beautiful Sierra de Aracena on two wheels, passing through quaint “Pueblo Blancos” white villages and discovering the outstanding mountain scenery and landscapes. This holiday is specially designed to experience the “traditional” Andalucian sierra with all its charm by e-mountain bike. We stay in a simple, rustic, centrally located “Pueblo Blancos” village hotel ideally situated for the towns amenities, which will be a perfect accompaniment to discover the natural environment, tranquillity and beauty this region has to offer.

Our e-bikes – Cycling made easier
An e-mountain bike is a power-assisted bicycle fitted with a lightweight battery and electric motor. You still pedal and use your gears just like on a standard bike (so you still exercise), with the motor just giving you a helping hand. We use high standard mountain e-bikes BH ATOM 27.5 (or similar) designed for general road and off road cycling, with 10 gears and have 4 speed settings to help you tackle the hills, assist on longer routes and generally help when needed. After all you are on holiday to enjoy this fantastic region. For peace of mind the bike hire also includes road assistance, security lock, and puncture repair kits.

What to Wear
It is of paramount importance that you have the correct attire when cycling for enjoyment, comfort and safety. It is essential to wear padded cycling shorts/trousers that are comfortable. We strongly recommend wearing a suitable cycling helmet on your tour. We recommend bringing your own helmet for comfort and safety however, helmets will be available with the e-bike hire. We also highly recommend taking and wearing cycling/biking short or long gloves. You will also need to bring a small adapted rucksack suitable for bike riding to keep all your essentials such a food, drink, first-aid kit, clothing etc

Whilst we would hope for good weather during your holiday, it is of course impossible to guarantee this. We would therefore recommend you travel with clothing suitable for all conditions, and suggest you use the following checklist as a guideline of what to take:

  • Cycling shorts/trousers with padded seat – to wear under your cycling clothes – definitely worth investing in a pair or two if you haven’t any already.
  • Shorts to go on top of cycling shorts. For cooler climates or early/late in the season, you may want to consider packing three-quarter length shorts or tights/leggings.
  • Waterproofs – light-weight fold-able jacket and trousers to fit in your small rucksack
  • Comfortable trainers/footwear for cycling
  • Cycling jersey or similar (insulated for warmth for cooler climates or early/late in the season)
  • Base layer/breathable tops
  • Mid layer (Fleece)
  •  Helmet - essential (we recommend to take your own for comfort and safety)
  •  Gloves (short or long finger)
  •  Lightweight drinking bottle
  •  Sunglasses – bright sunlight can impair your vision when riding, we recommend to bring a pair that fit comfortable and not fall off as you ride.
  •  Basic first-aid kit - It’s useful to have a basic first-aid kit in your small rucksack as you cycle. Cuts or scrapes can occasionally happen so make sure it includes a set of plasters, together with painkillers, bandages and any essential medication you may need.
  •  Sunscreen and lip-balm
  •  Casual clothes and comfortable shoes for when not cycling

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €20 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are and not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

More to Explore

Please note that prices shown are approximate and may vary according to numbers. Full details will be given at your Information Meeting. All tours must be paid for in euros only.
