Learn to Ballroom

Aimed at beginners and novices, learn to ballroom dance with other Solos’ guests who are all at a similar level. Meet our Solos Tour Leader at the start of the weekend for a welcome dinner and disco. 2 ballroom lessons take place on Saturday (2 hours in both the morning and afternoon) where we’ll learn the basic movements of the Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha Cha and Jive.

The Saturday evening dance gives us a chance to put what we’ve learnt during the day into practice. The ballroom dances are mixed with some fun mixer dances (no previous experience required!) Our Sunday morning 2 hour lesson recaps the moves and also adds a few new steps to our expanding repertoire.

The Next Step (Apr'18)

Learn to Ballroom Dance (Sep'17 & Nov '18)
You will begin to learn the basic movements of four different dances: the Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha Cha and Jive.

Ballroom lessons
Saturday—2 lessons (2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the afternoon) Sunday—1 lesson of 2 hours in the morning. Afterwards try out your newly learned moves in the evening dance. There will also be “barn dances” which are fun & lively party mixer dances!

There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £5. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (the rounding up of the drinks bill and a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, restaurants expect a 10Ͽratuity (do check that service has not already been added to your bill). For taxis 10Ͽf the metered fare.

Dress Code
Dress will be casual for most of the weekend, with smart casual required in the Cambridge Suite for dinner (no shorts, jeans or T-shirts). For the all dance lessons, loose clothing is suggested. We suggest that the men bring formal shoes to dance in and for the ladies, a shoe with a small heel and enclosed back is recommended. Due to the amount of dancing during the weekend we suggest you may like to bring a change of dance shoes in case one pair starts to chafe. Leather soled shoes glide and turn better than rubber gripping soles therefore we do not recommend trainers.
