Sequence Dancing

If you have attended one or more of dancing weekends and feel ready to try something new let our dance teachers Clive and Jenny introduce you to Sequence dancing.

Sequence dancing is a combination of figures and movements from the Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba etc. arranged in a repeatable group or sequence. This type of dancing also includes Old Time dances such as Old Time Waltz, Two-Steps, Blues, Saunters, Swings etc. When dancing sequence, all couples dance around the ballroom anticlockwise, dancing the same sequence as each other at the same time, almost as if in formation and each dance has an exclusive name.

The Saturday evening dance gives us a chance to put what we’ve learnt during the day into practice. The ballroom dances are mixed with some fun mixer dances (no previous experience required!). Our Sunday morning two-hour lesson recaps the moves and also adds a few new steps to our expanding repertoire.

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £5. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (the rounding up of the drinks bill and a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, restaurants expect a 10Ͽratuity (do check that service has not already been added to your bill). For taxis 10% of the metered fare.

Dress Code
Dress will be casual for most of the weekend, with smart casual required in the Cambridge Suite for dinner (no shorts, jeans or T-shirts). For the all dance lessons, loose clothing is suggested. We suggest that the men bring formal shoes to dance in and for the ladies, a shoe with a small heel and enclosed back is recommended. Due to the amount of dancing during the weekend we suggest you may like to bring a change of dance shoes in case one pair starts to chafe. Leather soled shoes glide and turn better than rubber gripping soles therefore we do not recommend trainers.
