Historical Santo Domingo Day Trip Currently USD95.00
Visit the oldest city of the New World where Christopher Columbus made his first permanent settlement after his discovery of the Americas more than 500 years ago! A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992 and home to the first cathedral, paved street, university, hospital & tavern on this continent. Soak up this extraordinary rich history, on a walking tour through its atmospheric streets and squares. Visit the beautiful and important Cathedral of Santa Maria La Menor, the Alcázar home of Columbus’ son Diego, Calle las Damas, and a selection of the other most notable colonial monuments. You will also have panoramic view of the enormous Christopher Columbus Lighthouse, the city downtown areas, and the impressive Presidential Palace. There is time for shopping too, at a colorful souvenir market. A tasty, and typical Dominican style lunch is included in a local restaurant. Long pants and sleeves are mandatory to enter the cathedral. Duration: 12 hours
Saona Island Paradise Currently USD95.00
Saona Island is the picture-perfect version of a tropical island paradise! Its national park status means its beaches are pristine with soft white sand, its turquoise waters are clear and inviting for a swim or just to sit in the shallows. Endless tall, graceful palms sway in the gentle breeze, completing the idyllic setting for the day. The trip begins with either a catamaran or speedboat ride to arrive at the beautiful beach. Swim in the natural swimming pool, a unique wonder of nature and where you can sometimes glimpse huge starfish on the sandy bottom. Enjoy this unspoiled gorgeous island beach for a few relaxing hours. Typical-style lunch and local drinks are included in this fantastic tour. What to bring – sun lotion, sunglasses, beach towels and swimming suits. Duration: approximately 10 hours
The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual.
We suggest a group collection at the end of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £20.00 per week, (or the equivalent amount in local currency). Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (the rounding up of the drinks bill and a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated).
As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, restaurants expect a 10% (do check that service has not already been added to your bill). For taxis 10% the metered fare.
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day and of course swimwear! Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings.
