Our walking tour starts in the old city of Dubrovnik. Situated on the Adriatic Sea, the city’s religious buildings surrounded by heavily fortified walls and jumble of red-tiled roofs makes it a truly enchanting place. In the evening, we will take a tour around the city and go out for a group meal where we will also have a briefing about the tour. Overnight Dubrovnik

  • Accommodation Hotel Vis *** (or similar)
  • MEALS Dinner included

After breakfast we will take a short transfer (25 minutes) to the village of Gornij Obod. From here we will follow a path that zig-zags up to the village of Velji Do, where there will be an opportunity to buy some refreshments. After a break, our walk continues up to Strazisce Peak. When we reach the top, we will be rewarded with spectacular views over Dubrovnik. We’ll also be able to see the commemorative cross in memory of the US aircraft which crashed while delivering aid in 1996. After soaking up the scenery, we will return to Velji Do and transfer back to Dubrovnik where we have the afternoon to explore the city and the cobblestoned streets of the Old Town at our own pace. Overnight Dubrovnik

Length of walk: 7km

  • Accommodation Hotel Vis *** (or similar)
  • MEALS Breakfast & Dinner included

After breakfast, we will transfer by bus to Tucepi (approximately 3.5 hours including a coffee break en route). Once in Tucepi, we will begin our walk to Makarska through the Biokovo mountains. The Biokovo Massif rises above the Makarska in three spectacular shelves, providing hiking at all levels and fabulous views. Our destination is a small but lively town, tastefully restored in stone after a devastating earthquake in 1962. It has a fantastic 2km stretch of beach, so if we have a bit of time we can take a refreshing dip before heading to the island of Brac. We will then catch the ferry from Makarska and transfer to Supetar. Overnight Brac

Length of walk: 12km

  • Accommodation Velaris Resort Brac Island *** (or similar)
  • MEALS Breakfast & Dinner included

We start today with a 30 minute transfer to the small village of Gazul. From here, we begin our walk to the peak of Vidova Gora. The first part of the walk will take us through woodland for around 1.5 hours as we gradually ascend 230m to the summit of the highest point on Brac island. The views from the top are spectacular; we’ll be able to see all the way to the distant island of Hvar and the famous 500m long spit of Zlatni Rat. This view features on many postcards in Croatia so make sure you bring your camera! From here, our walk takes us downhill for around 2 hours towards the town of Bol. Overnight Brac

Length of walk: 13km

  • Accommodation Velaris Resort Brac Island *** (or similar)
  • MEALS Breakfast & Dinner included

We begin our day with a morning ferry transfer to Split, Croatia’s second biggest city. The old centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, with the main draw being Diocletian’s Roman Palace. The city as a whole is a lively and friendly place with a bustling café culture. After soaking up the atmosphere, we will then transfer by bus to Krka National Park. Here, we begin our walk to the Skradinski Buk Waterfalls, a series of waterfalls dropping down in 14 dramatic stages. The area is accessed by wooden walkways and forest paths, and at the base of the waterfall we can even take a dip if we have time! The area is also fantastic for wildlife – it’s now an important wildlife sanctuary home to several species endemic to the region or now extinct elsewhere in Europe. Our walk will take around 2.5 hours. In the late afternoon, we will transfer to Starigrad-Paklenica. Overnight Starigrad-Paklenica

Length of walk: 6km

  • Accommodation Hotel Vicko, Starigrad *** (or similar)
  • MEALS Breakfast & Dinner included

Today we have a walking tour of the National Park Paklenica: home to two of the most impressive canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica. Vertically cut into the mountain, these are where climbers from all across Europe come to test their skills and conquer these assents. In the park we’ll also find several unusual karst forms and caves, and the area is rich in flora and fauna. Our 7.5 hour walk starts with a jeep ride up to Veliko Rujno and from here we climb 300m for fantastic views over the park. Our walk is then mostly downhill; we will descend 1150m through the quietest areas of the park, passing the Mirila graves, the village of Tomici and finishing in the main canyon itself. In the afternoon, we return to Starigrad-Paklenica. Overnight Starigrad-Paklenica

Length of walk: 15km

  • Accommodation Hotel Vicko, Starigrad *** (or similar)

Today presents another opportunity to explore the wonderful wilderness of the National Park Paklenica. We will walk to the saddle of ‘Pod Jaginim Kukom’, admiring the great views of Bojin Kuk Mountain. The mountain’s Bojinac landscape is made up of a vast area of limestone, with the karst scenery forming towers of rock, furrowed limestone cliffs, caves and soft green meadows. It’s an area of outstanding natural beauty and a walker’s paradise! We will walk for about 5-6 hours, returning to Starigrad-Paklenica in the evening. Overnight Starigrad-Paklenica

Walking Notes
Grade: Easy – Medium
Distance: 6 to 15km per day
Walking boots: Essential

What to Wear
It is of paramount importance that you have the correct footwear. It is essential to wear walking boots that are comfortable and preferably lightweight, with some ankle support and a good grip. If you already have a pair of boots that you are happy walking in (including during hot/wet weather and on hard ground), then bring these along. However, if you are bringing new footwear, do make sure they are well broken in before you arrive. Experience has shown that wearing 2 pairs of woollen socks adds to comfort. Whilst we would hope for good weather during your holiday, it is of course impossible to guarantee this. We would therefore recommend you travel with clothing suitable for all conditions, and suggest you use the following checklist as a guideline of what to take:

  • Walking boots with good ankle support
  • Waterproofs – jacket and trousers
  • Walking poles – recommended as they provide good support for the knees, particularly on downhill sections of walks and when conditions are wet/slippery
  • Lightweight trousers and shorts with pockets
  • Shirts or t-shirts for walking in
  • Walking socks – several pairs
  • Lightweight fleece or jumper
  • Daysack/rucksack for walking
  • Umbrella – it can be used also for protection from the sun as well as rain
  • Lightweight drinking bottle to carry water whilst walking
  • Small first aid kit – plasters, insect repellant, etc
  • Good, high factor sunscreen, sunhat and sunglasses

More to Explore
There may be optional activities available to you during the course of your holiday, full details of which will be given out at your Information Meeting by your Tour Leader. All tours should be paid for in euros only. The exact amount will be given at your Information Meeting. Your Tour Leader will help arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you.

Currency
Croatia Kuna

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage on.
