About this holiday

Our base for the trip is the exquisite country house hotel Villa Luppis. Situated just under an hours’ drive from Venice, this hotel really is a real treat and provides a warm welcome to Italy. On arrival after lunch, our afternoon is free to relax and wander the expansive grounds or take a swim in the pool, before our welcome drink and extensive dinner with a menu composed of exceptional and delicious traditional courses of the region.

Cooking & Wine

The next morning is spent with the hotel’s chef watching and helping prepare our own menu for lunch using some of the areas best quality local ingredients. Later we visit the hotels winery which is located in an ice cellar dating back to the year 1200. Here, the Sommelier introduces a variety of important red and white wines explaining their characteristics, how they are produced and of course, the best combinations with many food courses. Dinner then takes on a gala flair in the hotels gourmet restaurant - Tabula.

A Day in Venice

With its close proximity from the hotel, we head to Venice for the day. The people of Veneto founded this amazing city in 421AD and their legacies live on in marble palaces, great churches and countless art treasures in the city’s galleries. 100 islands are divided by canals and linked by over 450 bridges and we can explore the famous sights from Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica.

Prosecco & Pizza

The area of northern Italy is the main producer of Prosecco and out and about again we head to one of the producers. Made predominantly from Glera grapes, this Italian white wine can be spumante (sparkling), frizzante (semi-sparkling) or tranquillo (still). We’ll then enjoy lunch before relaxing back at the hotel. For our final evening there is no better way to round off an Italian holiday in a typical pizzeria.

Found right on the border between the Veneto and Friuli regions, this former monastery is steeped in aristocratic history. Built at the beginning of the 11th century full of Italian heritage this now beautiful country hotel is still family owned and run.

There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.

Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of €20.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.

Dress code

Comfortable wear with layers during the day. Smart casual wear is recommended for the evenings. Sweaters, coats, warm jackets would be necessary with rainwear in case of showers. Comfortable shoes are a “must” for sightseeing.
