After breakfast at our hotel we will start our Mexico City Tour that includes: Plaza de la Constitución (The Constitution Plaza) known as Zócalo, surrounded by beautiful Baroque buildings, among which is the Cathedral – the country’s largest religious monument built over the great Aztec temple. We will continue to the Anthropology Museum and visit the biggest museum in Mexico. This building is one of the most beautiful examples of Mexican contemporary architecture. Here we will visit the rooms of Mesoamerica, where the origins of the civilizations of old Mexico are shown, such as the Teotihuacán room and the Aztec rooms. We will learn about the civilization that developed in South-eastern Mexico and part of Central America and whose greatness has been recognized by specialists worldwide, because of its advanced knowledge in architecture, astronomy, mathematics, philosophy and art. Lunch during our tour is included.

In the evening we will enjoy a welcome drink before a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight Mexico City.

Its most important temple is called Templo de las Inscripciones (Temple of the Inscriptions) and it is here where explorers discovered Pakal’s tomb, with its famous jade green mask. We will continue our tour to Campeche, which is the capital of the Campeche State. Lunch will be in a restaurant en route. Upon arrival in Campeche we will have a short visit of the ancient town, surrounded by fort walls and towers built to protect this city from the pirates. Lunch will be in a restaurant. Later we will continue our tour to Mérida, also known as the “White City”, which has Colonial houses as well as houses that date back to the beginning of the century in Arabic, French and Italian styles. The American Flamingo is Celestún's signature bird and feathered attraction. This flamingo is the largest and most brilliantly coloured of the six species that exist in the world. These elegant birds require a special habitat with swampy ground, shallow salt water and protection from the tides and flooding. We will take a private motorboat ride through the dense mangroves and low forests with high temperatures that provide the abundant marine crustaceans that are necessary to give the plumage of these beautiful birds its distinctive colouring. During the tour we will have lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon we will return to Mérida.

Useful Information

Visas
This information is for travellers using a full ‘British Citizen’ passport. More information can be found here.

If you’re visiting Mexico as a tourist you don’t need a visa, but you’ll need to complete an immigration form and have this with you when you enter and leave Mexico. You can get one either when you arrive (forms are available at border crossings or on-board flights to Mexico) or online in advance from the National Institute of Immigration website. Please note that due to the requirements of the online system, the advance option is only possible if your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of entry to Mexico. Immigration officials at the port of entry may ask to see proof of your departure plans from Mexico before allowing you entry to the country.

You need an immigration form to leave the country. If you lose your immigration form you can get it replaced at the immigration office at any international airport in Mexico. The cost of a replacement is $500 Mexican Pesos, which is payable at a bank.

There have been reports of bogus immigration officers operating within international airports. You should always refuse offers of help and head directly to the immigration office.

Importing meat or dairy products
You can’t bring meat or dairy products into Mexico from the EU.

Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay in Mexico.

UK Emergency Travel Documents
UK Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Mexico and are accepted for entry, airside transit and exit from Mexico.

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Mexico City International Airport to your hotel in Mexico City is approximately 40 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £70.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

Currency
The local currency is the Mexican Nuevo Peso, known colloquially as ‘Peso’. It’s easier to exchange US dollar travellers’ cheques and notes into local currency than Sterling. UK debit and credit cards are widely accepted for payment and in ATMs. It’s not usually possible to exchange cash at hotel receptions - this can only be done at banks and bureaux de change.

Included Programme
A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.

Dress Code
The emphasis is on casual clothing throughout. Go for light, loose cotton clothing and comfortable shoes or walking boots.

In Mexico City and in Mexico's colonial cities, people generally dress more modestly than in beach destinations. Women in Mexico's interior destinations seldom wear shorts, and men almost never do. Women who don't want to attract excessive attention from men would be well advised to avoid short skirts and shorts and revealing clothes in general. Lightweight pants and long skirts are good options, as are blouses and tops that cover your cleavage. Sleeveless tops are acceptable, vest tops less so.

For beach cities and towns, casual clothes and shorts and vest tops are generally acceptable on the street. If you're going to the beach or pool, take something to cover up on your way there and back—wearing swimsuits away from the beach or pool is considered inappropriate.

For restaurants, you should dress a bit more formally. Some restaurants require men to wear long pants and closed shoes.

If you're visiting churches, short shorts, short skirts, and vest tops are frowned on, but Bermuda type shorts and t-shirts are generally fine.

For visiting archaeological sites, comfort is key. Wear comfortable walking shoes. A closed toe is best for climbing and walking on sometimes treacherous surfaces. Although the weather may be hot, it's best to cover up to avoid excessive sun exposure.

Please note

  • Please note that the outbound flight is from London Heathrow and flight from Cancun is back to London Gatwick
  • A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling, some with early starts.
  • The order of the itinerary and events may be subject to change
