Rome wasn’t built in a day, but our guided tour will reveal her treasures in just half!
With a history spanning over 2,000 years, Italy’s captivating capital is without a doubt one of the most inspiring cities in the world. Awash with ancient monuments and exciting legends, the atmosphere is alive with reminders of the Roman Emperors who once called it home. Come and join us in the magical city of Rome to celebrate the start of a new year!
Welcome to the eternal city of Rome! After arriving at Rome Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration and collect our luggage before heading to our hotel in Rome for a Solos welcome drink and dinner at a local restaurant.
After breakfast we will head to the Vatican City where our guide will meet us to show us around the smallest state in the world! We will be visiting the Vatican Museums, which are among the top 10 most visited museums in the world. The museum was born at the beginning of the sixteenth century at the behest of Pope Julius II, the same pope who as patron, made the Renaissance flourish by welcoming artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael and began the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica which was to become the largest church in the world. We will learn about the stories behind the works and their artists and the popes who in the past ruled in Europe as true sovereigns.
After a leisurely breakfast we will meet our walking guide who will show us all the highlights of this historical city.
We will start from Piazza del Popolo, the ancient monumental entrance to Rome for all those travelers who came from Northern Europe when there was no railway. We are immediately enveloped by the scenic square that welcomes the stranger enchanting him with its timeless beauties: in the center the Egyptian obelisk from the time of Ramses II brought to Rome by the Emperor Augustus, in the background the two twin Baroque churches, which open curtain the three roads that lead into the heart of the city, the famous trident.
After breakfast we’ll have some free time to explore Rome a little bit more before transfering to the airport for our return flight home.
Our hotel is located in the San Giovanni area along Via Appia Antica. St. John’s Cathedral is reachable on foot in about 20 minutes and local buses provide direct links to the Colosseum. A 15-minute walk takes you to the Re di Roma Metro station.
Restored from a building that dates back to the 1950s, Cilicia Hotel is complete with a bar and a seating area in the garden. Breakfast is buffet style and served in the hotel’s restaurant.
All rooms are tastefully furnished in a classic style, and equipped with adjustable air conditioning, mini bar, hair dryer, satellite TV, telephone, safe-deposit box and Wi-Fi Internet connection.
The transfer time from Rome Fiumicino Airport to your hotel in Rome is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the traffic.
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum £15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
A half day walking visit of the centre of Rome with a guide is included in your touring package.
