Extras
Welcome to New York City! An urban jungle, cultural capital, and a shopper’s paradise. We won’t be far from a “New Yorker” life-style and its famous energy of “the city that never sleeps” as our hotel is in Manhattan. We meet our local guide and transfer to our hotel. After we check-in to our rooms we have time to relax after our long flight before an evening walk to Times Square to see the lights.
After breakfast we start our day with a panoramic city tour of midtown and lower Manhattan; Times Square and Broadway; 5th Avenue, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center; Empire State Building, Greenwich Village, Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy. We’ll finish our tour with an ascend to the 86th floor observatory of the Empire State Building to enjoy breathtaking views of New York. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Today, we’ll discover the subway system of New York during our excursion to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. We’ll take the subway to Battery Park, from there we’ll embark on the ferry to Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty has been standing since 1886 and has gone on to become the symbol of the USA. We continue via ferry to Ellis Island, the most important entry point for immigrants until the 1950’s. We’ll visit the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island. Afterwards we return to Battery Park for a walking tour of the Financial District, Wall Street and September 11 Memorial. Your evening is at leisure.
No visit to New York would be complete without seeing Harlem! Our panoramic tour of Harlem includes the Apollo Theater, St. John’s Cathedral, General Grant National Memorial and Columbia University. Afterwards we come back to Midtown for a stroll in Central Park. In the afternoon, we continue to Brooklyn to discover fashionable Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighborhoods. As this is our last night we enjoy a farewell dinner together in the city where we can reminisce about our days spent together in New York.
After breakfast we have the day at leisure before transferring to the airport for our overnight flight home. You may want to do some extra sight-seeing or perhaps take to the shops! New York City is a shopper’s paradise and if you want designer goods you can head to Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Browns or Saks Fifth Avenue, however if quirky boutiques are more you, then you could take a stroll down to Greenwich Village. We can make the most of our last few hours in this iconic city!

There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.
Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of $25.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.
Casual layers are suggested for daytime wear including a warm coat and an umbrella is always handy, just in case! Comfortable shoes are a ‘must’ for sightseeing. Smart casual warm clothes will be ideal for the evening.
