DAY 2

Weston- Super-Mare to Brean Down Walk

After breakfast our walking guide will meet us at our hotel to start our first days walk. Our route takes us along the promenade past the Wintergardens and the Grand Pier and Tropicana. From here our path takes us to the outskirts of Uphill through the Bleaden Levels nature reserve to the start of the popular Brean Down Way which opened in 2017. This path now gives access to walkers and cyclists over the River Axe to Brean Sands which was impassable for many years as the sluice gates were closed to the public.  The route through the Bleaden Level nature reserve has now been screened so that pedestrians and cyclist can pass safely over the river without disturbing the many species of birds that visit the area, including Redshanks making this a lovely walk joining Weston-Super-Mare to Bean Sands. Once we reach Brean we stop for lunch at a local pub (at own cost).

After lunch, we head onto the Beach and climb the 200 steps up to the National Trust Brean Peninsular where we explore this spectacular natural pier that stretches out into the Bristol Channel. We will see and learn about the history of Brean Fort built in 1870 to protect against French invasion plus we pass a site of a small Roman temple. We then take a set of steps which will take us to the top of the Down providing amazing views along the way over the Bristol Channel to South Wales and Steep Holm Island.

DAY 3

Weston Woods & Town Walk

Once again, our walking guide will meet us at our hotel for today’s walk. Our route takes us around Knightstone Island and then past the marina leading to views of Birnbeck Pier. We then climb the steps upto the Prince Consort Gardens and then continue up hill to Weston Woods and onto the Worlebury Iron Age Hill Fort. From here we leave the woods in upper Weston-Super-Mare which is known for its Victorian architecture designed by Hans Price who developed much of this iconic and popular Victorian holiday resort town as we see today
