What’s Extra
Upon arrival in Munich we will transfer to the town of Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps. Oberammergau is best know for the Passion Play that is hosted in the town every ten years.
After check in and some time to settle in at our hotel we will all meet for dinner.
After breakfast you will have some free time to relax or explore the local area before our transfer arrives to take us to the Passion Play.
The origins of this extraordinary play began in 1633 when the Bavarian village of Oberammergau was struck down by the Great Plague. The inhabitants prayed for their lives to be spared, pledging in return an oath to perform a play every ten years depicting the trial, suffering and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The death rate slowly subsided and the villagers believed they had been spared and have kept up with vow since the first performance in 1634. Today, visitors from across the world join here to marvel at a cast of approximately 2,000 amateur actors from the region, as they unfold scenes of The Passion Play.
After breakfast we will transfer to our hotel in Munich. Once we have checked in to our hotel we will meet our walking guide who will show us all the major sights this city has to offer.
Munich is Germany’s number-one city for art, science and culture. Back in the 19th-century, the Bavarian kings transformed Munich into a cultural capital. The numerous museums around the city host impressive collections of ancient, classic and modern art. However, there is no need to step into a museum to be awed by beauty; Munich’s city centre has some absolutely stunning architecture. Post World War II, much work has been done to restore the historic buildings back to their original splendour and now the city centre appears as it did in the late 1800’s.
After breakfast we have a little more time to further explore Munich before we transfer to the airport for our flight home.
We stay in comfortable hotels throughout as detailed below (or similar);
The transfer time between Munich Airport and the hotel in Oberammergau is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.

We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum £20.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
