Useful Information

Travel Documents, Visas & Vaccinations

UK citizens must have a full 10 year.

The UK Government is advising that, after 29 March 2019, travellers should have 6 months left on their UK passport from your date of arrival. If a passport was renewed before it expired, extra months may have been added to the new passport’s expiry date. Any extra months on your passport over 10 years may not count towards the 6 months that should be remaining for travel to most countries in Europe.

You must ensure that you're familiar with the UK Government's guidance on passport rules for travel: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/passport-rules-for-travel-to-europe-after-brexit

You can use the Passport Office passport validity checker to ensure that your passport has sufficient validity https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/check-a-passport

Guests holding a "British Isles" passport issued in the Balliwicks of Jersey or Guernsey or the Isle of Man may not be entitled to the same entry exceptions when visiting countries abroad as a guest holding a full UK passport and this should be checked carefully with the embassies of the countries you will visit on your itinerary.

Guests holding non UK or ROI passports should check with relevant embassies.

For further passport, visa and health advice for your destinations please visit the FCO (UK) or DFA (Ireland) websites, have a look at our visa page or refer to our Booking Conditions.

ESTAs are mandatory for everyone travelling to the US. You must apply for an ESTA no later than 72 hours before departing for the United States. Real-time approvals are no longer available and arriving at the airport without a previously approved ESTA will likely result in being denied boarding. Some other countries also run similar programmes – so make sure you've checked the requirements well in advance.

ONLINE CHECK-IN

Speed up the boarding process when you check-in online – you can do so from 90 days to 3 days prior to departure. It’ll take 15-20 minutes and you’ll need: passport details, ship name, sailing date, reservation number, home address, emergency contact details, pre- and post-cruise travel details, and credit card details for your Onboard Expense Account. Please note: passport details are mandatory for guests who have booked flights.

How will I receive my cruise documents and bag tags?

Royal Caribbean now provides its tickets as an electronic document (e-doc). These will be sent to Solos we will then forward this to you, either by email or they can print it and provide you with a paper copy.

The e-doc comes in two formats; the first is a link to the online version which you access through the internet and your web browser. This is a full colour version which has photos and links to the important sections on the Royal Caribbean website; to book shore excursions, speciality dining, online check-in etc. It has a great deal of information about what to do to prepare for your cruise, how things run onboard and details of our policies and the requirements for travel. We strongly recommend that this online version is viewed, so you can ensure that you are aware of any details or travel documents you need for your cruise.

The second version is a slimmed down copy, which comes as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. This is text only and contains the essential items that you need for travel, so that if you want to have a paper ticket to travel, this is the version you can ask your travel agent to print for you or you can obtain it from our website yourself, following the instructions as below.

Bag tags are contained within your cruise tickets (e-docs) for all Royal Caribbean sailings. You will still be able to obtain blank bag tags at your port of embarkation should you prefer.

Your cruise tickets can be released anything from 50 days prior to your sail date, but it can depend on all parts of the booking being correct, and if not then they may not release until nearer the cruise. When they are released, we inform your travel agent of this and they can then provide you with them. If you have made your booking directly with us, when the tickets release we will inform you of this by email and at this point you can access both versions of the tickets on this website at www.royalcaribbean.co.uk/edocs

To log in to your booking you will need the following:

Your cruise reservation ID
Your ship name
Your sail date, this is the date that you board the ship
The surname of the first passenger listed on the booking

Once your online check-in has been completed and you’re within 30 days of sailing, you will be able to print off your SetSail pass which will need to be signed and taken with you on day of embarkation. This will help speed up your check-in experience at the port.

What are the guidelines for tipping onboard?

The guidelines for tipping on board are:

For guests in a Junior suite or a Stateroom - $14.50 per guest per day. Tips are voluntary and at the discretion of each guest. These guidelines serve as suggestions to help guests express their gratitude for the outstanding service they experience on their Royal Caribbean cruise holiday. Tips for other service personnel are at your discretion. An 18% gratuity will automatically be added to your bar bill or wine bill when you are served and for services in the Spa or Salon.

What are the benefits of Pre-Paid Gratuities/Service Charges?

When you pre-pay the gratuities as part of your booking, it is normally cheaper than paying in USD when you are onboard

Pre-paying service charges gives you peace of mind making the process seamless for when you get on board.

Avoid fluctuating exchange rates onboard.

Gratuities are payable in US dollars on board. If you pre-pay you don’t have to take extra cash on board or any additional foreign currency.

How can I pay tips?
For the convenience of guests, pre-paid tips may be arranged online or added to your booking by your travel agent or Personal Cruise Specialist, before your sailing date. If you have opted not to pre-pay your Service Charge before your cruise, then for all sailings that commence after 1st May 2016, for your convenience we will automatically add a $13.50 per guest per day* service charge to each guest's SeaPass account on a daily basis. * For Grand Suites and above the daily charge will be $16.50. Alternatively, you may pay in cash at the end of your cruise directly to the crew members you wish to recognise for their service (If you require an envelope for the crew member concerned, please see the Guest Relations Desk).

Please note gratuities are discretionary so in the unlikely event that a guest on board being charged the daily automatic gratuity does not receive satisfactory service, our guests may request to modify (increase, decrease or remove) the daily amount by visiting Guest Services during their cruise.

What is an Onboard Expense Account? How do I pay for purchases onboard?

An Onboard Expense Account is the cashless system used for all on board purchases and services. Your SeaPass card acts as your onboard ID, stateroom/suite door key and your card to charge onboard purchases to.

The account may be set-up in advance through the online check-in process or at the pier when you check in. You can register either a credit card or set up a cash account.  Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Optima, Discover and Diner's Card are all accepted.

For each purchase made on board the ship you will receive a receipt at the point of sale. A final statement will be delivered to your stateroom on the last night of your cruise holiday for your review. You can check your account through your interactive stateroom TV during your cruise. If you are travelling on consecutive cruises, your account will be settled at the end of each cruise.

Guests who set up an account with a credit card should verify the statement. If all purchases are correct, they will automatically be charged to the credit card registered.

Guests with a cash account will need to settle their statement onboard before disembarking. The ship will provide you with specific details when you set up the cash account. Guests are required to place a cash deposit in US dollars when setting up their account onboard. You can also use Traveller's Cheques to set up a cash account. There is a daily spending limit set on cash accounts, dependent on cruise duration.

Holding Charges - Whilst you are onboard, your daily spend will be authorised at the close of business each day. Your card provider, as part of their standard procedures, may retain these authorisations for up to 28 days and this is outside of the control of RCL Cruises Ltd. For this reason, you may wish to set up a cash only account or register a credit card rather than a debit card at the start of your sailing. You may also wish to contact your bank at the end of your cruise to assist with any outstanding authorisations.

When and how can I disembark?

The Cruise Director will give detailed instructions about clearing customs and immigration during the departure talk on the last day of the cruise. We strongly recommend that you attend this important and informative talk; you can also view this talk on your stateroom TV.

Once the ship has received proper clearance from the port, disembarkation can begin. Specific disembarkation details will be delivered to you on the ship.

Please Note: All passengers will be expected to have disembarked the vessel within three hours of the start time of the disembarkation process.

What do I do with my luggage?

Your luggage – with the exception of your hand-luggage – will need to be placed outside your stateroom the night before departure. Generally, by 12:00 midnight. Please consult your daily 'Cruise Compass' guide for the exact time. On the day of departure, you will claim your luggage from the baggage claim area of the pier terminal.

Choose a cruise holiday with confidence. All our cruises will operate as shown - irrespective of the number of bookings taken and subject to the Cruise company’s schedule. If necessary our itineraries may be subject to change, and in the event of adverse weather/sea conditions that prevent the ship from calling at one of the scheduled ports, alternative arrangements will be made where possible. All cruises that include a flight will be ATOL protected.
