Itinerary

After arriving in Havana, we will transfer to our hotel and enjoy some free time before dinner. When evening comes, we will join other Solos guests for a Welcome Drink and dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Havana.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel NH Capri
  • MEALS Dinner included

After breakfast we will discover the highlights of Havana, including the viewpoint of the Morro-Cabañas colonial fortress complex, Havana Old Town and the rum museum - with a tasting! Our next stop is the hotel of Ambos Mundos, where American writer Ernest Hemingway used to live. A cigar factory is another highlight of today. Afterwards we will visit the Revolution Museum, Central Park, The Great Havana Theatre and the famous bar El Floridita, which was visited many times by E. Hemingway. We will then proceed to explore the modern Havana, before finishing our tour in the elegant district of Miramar and its 5th avenue which is lined with mansions, embassies and foreign firms. Overnight in Havana.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel NH Capri
  • MEALS Breakfast included

After breakfast we will make our way to the town of Vinales, visiting the tobacco farm and the organic farm of El Paraiso. Afterwards we will visit Mural de la Prehistoria – a fascinating painting on a cliff face. The last stop of today’s journey is Los Jazmines, where we can enjoy the best views of Vinales Valley. The afternoon is then free for you to spend in Havana. Overnight in Havana.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel NH Capri
  • MEALS Breakfast included

Today we head to Cienfuegos, starting off in a farm of Fiesta Campesina. This is a very relaxing place, full of interesting trees and flowers. Our next stop is the Guama crocodile breeding farm. This farm began operating in 1960 to preserve two crocodile species, which became endangered due to indiscriminate hunting. Afterwards we will enjoy a sightseeing tour around Cienfuegos, which is famous for its colonial-era buildings. Overnight in Cienfuegos.

  • Accommodation 4 * Jagua by Melia
  • MEALS Breakfast included

Today, we will spend a full day exploring Trinidad, a town steeped in history and Cuban culture that’s known for its colonial old town and cobblestone streets. Magically frozen in time, the city has streets that are more populated by horse-drawn carts than automobile traffic, and old folks still crouch by windows behind fancy wrought-iron grilles to peer out at passers-by. Overnight in Cienfuegos.

  • Accommodation 4 * Jagua by Melia
  • MEALS Breakfast included

After breakfast we will make our way to the town of Santą Clara, visiting the Che Guevara (1928–1967) memorial en route. Che Guevara was a well-known figure of the Cuban Revolution and was Argentinian, not Cuban as many believe. Later we will have a sightseeing tour in Santa Clara. It is the capital of the central Cuban province of Villa Clara and holds a special place in Cuba's revolutionary history. Santa Clara is a good example of a more typical Cuban city where the everyday life of the locals is more evident and accessible. Overnight in Varadero.

Useful Information

Tourist Card

All passengers must be in possession of a passport with at least 6 months validity after the return date. If you’re entering Cuba as a tourist, you’ll need to get a tourist card before you travel. For more information and advice about visas, contact the Cuban Embassy.

If you’re a dual national, you should contact the Cuban Embassy for advice on entry requirements before you travel. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct tourist card, a valid passport and any other travel documents for your holiday. All information provided relates to British citizens who hold or are entitled to apply for a British passport. For the most up-to-date visa information please visit the Cuban Embassy.
If you are not a British citizen and do not hold a British passport, you must make your own enquiries as to the applicable requirements.

Your specific passport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements are your sole responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates of the countries in which you are planning to travel.

Transfer Time

The transfer time for the main tour between Havana Airport and the hotel in Havana is approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. On the day 8 the transfer from hotel in Varadero to Havana Airport is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Included Programme

A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.

Currency

Cuban Peso

Unlike other currencies the Cuban Peso is exclusive to Cuba. There are two versions, the Cuban Peso (CUP) for locals, and the Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC) for visitors. You can only get Convertible Pesos inside Cuba. To stop confusion between the two, currency in Cuba can only be changed at banks and cadecas (currency exchanges) at the airport or in hotels. It’s best to take Pounds to exchange.

Gratuities

There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.

We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £60 (or the equivalent amount in local currency). Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.

Dress Code

During the day when sightseeing, we recommend casual, lightweight cotton clothing. You will find that smart casual wear is acceptable, even in the best hotels during the evening. We would recommend a lightweight raincoat and an umbrella or hat for protection against rain or sun. Comfortable shoes are a “must” for sightseeing. From time to time, your guide will advise you about observing local customs. On some occasions, when entering places of worship for example, it will be necessary to wear clothing covering one’s shoulders and knees and women may be required to wear a scarf.

Please note

  • To get the most out of this tour a reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling, and early starts. There is a significant amount of walking on this holiday particularly due to the layout of the towns and activities featured. Please refer to Medical Conditions in Important Information. See here.
  • Inside and during the tour in the cigar factories you won’t be allowed to take pictures or shoot videos, the same will apply to the Che mausoleum in Santa Clara.
