The Chocolate Hills are a unique geological formation in the Bohol, Philippines. Taken during sunset.

With more than 7000 tropical islands to choose from, the Philippines are usually associated with tropical beaches but if you visit, you will also find a beautiful country rich with cultural heritage, intriguing historical landmarks and traditions dating back as far as 1521, when Ferdinand Magellan laid a sovereign hand on the archipelago of the Visayas and began the process of colonisation and Catholicisation that shaped so much of the nation’s history.

Later we will continue to Guimbal town’s beautiful plaza and an imposing yellow-sandstone church before proceeding to Miagao town to see the famous Miagao Church built in 1706 with a unique façade of botanical motif reminiscent of Aztec art. We will also visit the Balay ni Tana Dicang, the home of the matriarch of the Lizares clan and political power broker at the birth of the republic. From here, we will visit The Ruins, a park built around the ruins of a palatial ancestral home burnt during Second World War and set in the middle of a vast sugarcane plantation.

Later we will drive by Colon Street, the oldest street in Cebu city and pass by Carbon Market, a popular flea market in the city. We will observe these rare, nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat and marvel at their agility, as they move about leaping from one tree to the other and swivel their heads nearly 360 degrees.

Later we will continue to Baclayon, making a short stop at the historical Blood Compact site, where Spain’s Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, a native chieftain, sealed their friendship with a symbolic drink. We will pass by Bilar Man-Made forest, a thick undergrowth of towering mahogany trees grown on the fringes of the highway leading to the Chocolate Hills, the country’s geological wonder. We will stop at the drop off area to admire the view of the hills which change in colour with each season. In summer, the hill grasses turn deep brown that they resemble chocolate candy drops, hence the name, ‘Chocolate Hills.’ We will continue our tour to Loboc River where we enjoy our lunch on a floating restaurant. Transfer Time
The transfer time from Manila International Airport to your hotel in Manila is approximately 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Gratuities

We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of USD 5.00 per day (3$ for guide and 2$ for driver) per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.

Currency

US dollars is the best currency to take and exchange to Philippine Peso. Credit cards are widely accepted in the Philippines.

Included Programme

A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.

Walking

An excursion which involves short walks on easy terrain or a variety of short visits to various sites or places. Each visit may involve standing or walking for up to 30 minutes, but some public seating will normally be available. Walking distances are not normally more than 10 minutes. These excursions do not often involve a lot of steep stairs or gradients. There will normally be the option to remain on the coach if you choose to do so.

Dress Code

The emphasis is on casual clothing for throughout. Go for light, loose cotton clothing and comfortable shoes or walking boots. When visiting indoor attractions such as museums, temples, or colonial churches, there are instances where one requires to observe proper clothing. This means that anyone who’s wearing any type of shorts and flip-flops may be denied entry. Just to be safe and sure, it’s best to wear a casual top paired with knee-length skirt or loose-fitting trousers.

A cap or wide brimmed hat to protect from the sun and sunglasses are recommended. Do not forget to bring factor 50 sun cream.

Please note

  • A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required to enjoy the sightseeing/travelling, of which some may have early starts
  • The order of the itinerary and events may be subject to change
