Welcome to incredible Italy! Upon arrival at Rome International Airport, we will proceed through immigration, collect our luggage and transfer to our hotel in Perugia. In the evening, we will gather and enjoy a welcome drink and dinner at our hotel.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel La Rosetta
  • MEALS Dinner included

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start our 2.5-hour guided visit of the charming city of Perugia. The Regional capital and largest city of Umbria, Perugia is situated on a panoramic rise. It is a surprising city thanks to its variety and quality of ancient and medieval testimonies. We will visit Rocca Paolina Fortress which owes its name to Pope Paul III who had it built around 1540. The impressive walls once surrounded part of the old medieval town. Our next stop is The Fontana Maggiore   a monumental medieval fountain. We will pass the historical building of Palazzo dei Priori before visiting Collegio del Cambio where we can admire the best preserved halls of the Renaissance in Italy, bearing the splendid frescoes by Perugino. Our last stop today is Etruscan Arch – a well preserved monumental city gate of the Etruscan time.

The rest of the day is free for you to explore Perugia independently.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel La Rosetta
  • MEALS Breakfast included

After breakfast at the hotel, today is free for you to explore Perugia independently. Perugia remains one of the country’s most vibrant and underrated destinations. This is due, in no small part, to the energy of the early 14th-century University of Perugia, one of the oldest universities in Italy. Perugia’s bars, cafes and boutiques flourish in this Umbrian city, which does an excellent job of displaying its ancient foundations in the historic center.

  • Accommodation 4 * Hotel La Rosetta
  • MEALS Breakfast included

After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to Assisi for a full day guided visit. The pink stone town of Assisi is the home of Umbrian religious spirituality. The outstanding figures of the two local saints, Francis and Clare, intertwine with the artworks of the most famous painters of the Middle Ages. On our tour we will visit the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, where Saint Francis was born and died; it is one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. We will visit the Basilica of St. Clare, the Cathedral of San Rufino and the artistic Piazza del Comune. Our last stop today is Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels, situated on the valley just below Assisi. It covers a little oratory, named Porziuncola, where Francis and his companions first came to live in simple huts. It represents the beginning of the Franciscan communities.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will explore two small towns in southern Tuscany: Montepulciano and Pienza. Surrounded by vineyards, Montepulciano is known for its vino noble red wine. The town of Pienza is a perfect example of Renaissance architecture and urban planning, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our next stop is the town of Tuoro (Tuoro sul Trasimeno). Its medieval monuments and fishing pier provide pretty spots to visit. In Tuoro we will visit the small historic center and admire the splendid view of the lake, with its reflections and colours. Lunch with wine tasting is included.

A region rich in history

Like much of Italy, Umbria's historical narrative is long, intricately detailed and forever fascinating, dating back as far as the 6th century. Being the only region in Italy not bordered by the sea or another country, it's also managed to keep its cultural identity intact.

During this Discovery tour you’ll be based in the historical centre of Perugia, Umbria’s largest city, a helter-skelter of cobbled alleyways and piazzas which hasn’t changed much in over 400 years. We’ll also pay visits to neighbouring Assisi, the beating heart of Umbria’s religion and spirituality, before dipping into Tuscany to explore the charming towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Tuoro.
