Get ready to relax

Based just outside the attractive town of Penrith in beautiful Cumbria, The North Lakes Hotel & Spa is our base for the weekend.  We start our break off on Friday evening as we all meet up with our Solos host for a welcome drink followed by dinner.

Leisurely walks

On Saturday morning we head for the Lowther Estate, a forgotten landscape and countryside that can be wild and windswept. Passing its half-ruined castle and surrounding parkland, we make for the delightful conservation village of Askham. This historic village has medieval origins and a delightful rural setting between Ashkham Fell and the River Lowther, and its here that we stop for a spot of lunch. We then walk up a gradual assent to the fairly flat moorland of Moor Divock with its scraps of low heather and grasses. The area contains many prehistoric monuments including the imposing Cockpit stone circle and small stone cairns, which are remains of Bronze Age burial mounds. We follow the trail over to Pooley Bridge, enjoying views of Ullswater along the way.

Sunday Walking

Our second walk on Sunday explores the historic market town of Penrith, once home to Richard, Duke of York, later King Richard III. Our walk will include the castle and the nooks, crannies and alleyways in and around the markets and the parish church. We shall take the short climb to the top of Beacon Hill (937ft) to gain magnificent views of the Eden Valley, the Pennines and the Lake District fells.

Rejuvenating yoga

After our walks, we can enjoy two afternoon yoga sessions. What better way is there to relax and let our cares slip away? Our qualified yoga teacher caters for everyone, whether you're a beginner or an expert. Taking place at the hotel, it's here that we can find inner calm, relax our walking legs and learn a new respect for our bodies and minds.
