About this holiday
It’s hard to think of a region that provides a
greater variety of landscapes than Almeria.
Spain’s sunniest region, Almeria’s proximity to
North Africa means that the area is technically
a semi-desert, lying dormant during the heat of
the Andalucian summer, but bursting into life and
colour in winter. This is particularly true along the
coast where the dramatic shades of sea and sierra
are so powerful they are said to “dazzle the eye
and lift the spirits”.
Our walks take place in one of Europe’s most
remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo
de Gata – Nijar Natural Park, one of the last
relatively unspoiled stretches of coastline along
the Mediterranean Sea. It’s an amazing landscape
of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre
volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora
and fauna - a wonderful wild coastline, which you
will have seen more times than you think as it has
been used as the backdrop in many films - think
Indiana Jones or Lawrence of Arabia!
Moving inland, we will walk through some of the
region’s beautiful and unique landscapes, a bizarre
mixture of low, mostly barren mountains and
dried-up river beds, like a scene from the Wild
West. No surprise then that this is where many of
yesteryear’s spaghetti westerns were shot - think
‘A Fistful of Dollars’ or, ‘The Good The Bad &
Our programme of 5 walks include:

volcanic landscapes of Almeria where many
famous spaghetti westerns were filmed.
