About this holiday
High above the Mediterranean
coast, lie the dramatic peaks of
mainland Spain’s highest mountain
range, the Sierra Nevada – glorious
walking country where Spanish time
has stood still for centuries.
We have a programme of 5 guided
walks during the week, which
Acequia Acetuna and Lanjaron
A short scenic walk directly from the
village into the Rio Lanjaron valley.
From here we ascend to a delightful
picnic area before following a
second acequi through olive and
almond groves above the village.
Niguelas and the Rio Torrente
Staring in the picturesque white
village of Niguelas, our walk passes
along a dramatic acequias pinned to
a cliff face above the Rio Torrente
valley. From there we follow the
river before ascending to the village
White villages of the Taha
The Taha area of las Alpujarras is
a mix of farmed mountain terraces
and white villages perched on the
north side of the dramatic Rio
Trevelez gorge. Today we walk
through this picturesque area taking
in a number of these quaint villages
using the network of paths across
Today we head up through terraces
and pine forest above Llanjaron
before we follow a path across the
head of a dramatic mountain valley.
As we return to the village we can
incorporate a trip to the towns
Moorish castle perched dramatically
on a cliff face below the village.
Orgiva and the ‘’ ruta de
Orgiva, was made famous in the
book ‘Driving Over Lemons’. This
circular route drops to the Rio
Guadalfeo in the valley passing
the distinctive ‘seven eye bridge;
before heading through olive groves
some of which contain the gnarled
hundred year old olive trees.
A small and family-run hotel found
in Lanjarón offering fantastic views
of the surrounding landscapes.
Facilities include a restaurant, a bar,
lounge, outdoor swimming pool
with terrace, a library, fitness room,
sauna and spa (extra charges apply).
Rooms all feature satellite TV, telephone, fridge, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer and safe.
