About this holiday

Located not far from Winchester,we can check-in and relax withperhaps a swim or a sauna at ourwelcoming hotel before meetingour host and enjoying a welcomedrink and leisurely dinner. Withguided tours and stories ofliterary history, our weekendscelebrate the life of Jane Austen.Born in 1775 to a loving family, much of Jane’s life was spent inthe county of Hampshire.

After breakfast on Saturday morning, we head into Winchester and its magnificent Cathedral. It is here where Jane was buried after her tragic death on the 18th of July 1817 at the age of 41. There is an exhibition about her home and life alongside over 1000 years of history in the Cathedral including the Morley Library and the Winchester Bible. Following coffee and cake, we are introduced to the city of Winchester on an orientation tour taking us through the streets of England’s ancient capital and former seat of King Alfred the Great.

We also head over to the village of Chawton on Sunday morning and the cottage which was once Jane’s home which she lived in between 1809-1817. Janes’ mother and sister continued to live in the house after her death until 1845. It was converted into 3 dwellings for labourers before going on sale in 1947. Following an appeal by the Jane Austen society it was bought by Mr T.E Carpenter who converted it into a Museum dedicated to Jane. Here we can explore this charming home and view its peaceful garden. Jane was free to write here, revising 3 manuscripts and completing some of her elegant novels, many of which have become timeless English classics.
