About this holiday

Take time away and head to the Cornish coast for rugged coastlines, secret coves and mines as we explore the settings of one of the BBC’s hit TV shows and Winston Graham’s Poldark novels. Overlooking the cliffs in Newquay, enjoy a welcome drink and dinner on arrival before taking the steps into the world of Ross Poldark. Discover Gunwalloe; with its attractive sandy cove overlooked by the church of St Winwaloe on The Lizard was used to film the night-time ship-wrecking smuggling scenes. High on exposed cliffs, Levant Mine is owned by the National Trust and has the only existing working steam beam engine and its buildings serve as Tressiders Rolling Mill. We can also explore the beautiful open-air Minack Theatre at Porthcurno. Here are some of the best views and prime photo locations over Pedn Vounder and Porthcurno beaches.

The next day we head over to Charlestown Harbour near St Austell. This pristine Grade II listed harbour as well as being unspoilt, is famous for its collection of old ships used in many film projects from all over the world. As well as standing in for Poldark’s Truro, it plays the part of Falmouth where Captain Andrew Blamey sails from. It is also from here that Verity Poldark elopes with him to the disapproval of her family. We have time here to soak up the atmosphere before taking in a bit of fun making our own Cornish pasties and explore the makings of clotted cream! We finish the day in delightful Truro.

Dinner on 2 evenings is not included but we can relax at the hotel with pre-dinner drinks (cash basis) before heading out to find somewhere local for dinner.

Not quite ready to head home? If not then why not explore the town of Newquay or alternatively visit one of Cornwall’s top attractions, the Eden Project.
