Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can travel with Solos?

Solos singles holidays are available to anyone travelling alone. There are many reasons why people travel on their own – they may be single, unable to travel at the same time as their partner, or simply have different interests to their friends or partner. With Solos, you may be travelling alone but you will never be lonely.

What will my fellow travellers be like?

Variety is the spice of life and this can be said of the mix of people who book with Solos. Most single travellers choose us because they don’t want to travel or attend a social event on their own. It’s your chance to experience new destinations, try different activities and socialise with a group of new friends or maybe even catch up with some old ones too!

What is the proportion of women to men?

We always try to achieve an equal balance of women to men on all our singles holidays, breaks and events – however we can’t guarantee this. Women tend to book earlier than men so, to help us achieve a reasonable ratio and to avoid ladies having to be placed on a waiting list, we would encourage men to book as early as possible.

How many people will be in a group?

This depends on the type of experience. The average size of our single holiday groups is 15, but on some of our singles group holidays it can be between 20 and 30. Our popular Black Tie Balls can attract in excess of 80 people.

What age range can I expect?

At Solos, we know that age is just a number which is why we welcome travellers of all ages on our holidays.
Typically our groups are made up of people between 40-80 years of age, although this does vary from trip to trip. Our customers tell us that our mix of age groups is just one of the reasons they love our holidays. On a Solos holiday, you can expect to meet people from all different walks of life, with their own stories and life experiences to share, which never fails to create a fun and vibrant dynamic.

Will I get my own room and do I have to stay with the group all of the time?

You will always have use of either a single or double/twin room for sole use*. There are key times when the group will get together (at the welcome drink and on excursions for example), but it’s entirely up to you how much time you spend with the group.
*Except for 1 night on Safari & Sunsets and Trekking in the Himalayas when it is necessary to share due to the nature/style of the accommodation.

Can I share a room with someone?

We do offer this option on some of our holidays, particularly on our Dances & Festive Breaks and Discovery Tours. You may wish to share with a friend, for example, and make savings on the cost of a holiday. To find out more about sharing a room, please get in touch.

When do I meet my Tour Leader?

When you receive your holiday itinerary, we’ll let you know when and how you meet your Solos Tour Leader. Sometimes your Tour Leader will meet you at the boarding gate and fly with you, while, at other times, you will meet the Tour Leader at the destination – either at the airport when you get off the plane or in the resort. Either way, we’ll advise you exactly what to do and what to expect.

Are transfers included?

Airport Transfers

We now include transfers on many of our holidays, including where a regional flight has been booked as part of your package. Please note this transfer may be on your own, with another Solos customer or as a shuttle with non-Solos customers. On occasion, it may be necessary to wait for other passengers before the transfer departs. We are unable to include transfers in our package price for bookings with regional flights travelling on either Discovery, Activity including some Walks & Treks, Ski or City break holidays. In this instance, you will have the choice, where possible, of booking a separate transfer (at an additional cost) or joining the group transfer (if your flight arrives within 25 minutes of the group flight). It is important to note that we are not able to accept responsibility for missed transfers due to flight delays or any other circumstances beyond our control, such as schedule changes. If these changes result in the need for you to have a separate transfer, these costs will be passed on to you.

Land-only

If you would prefer to book your own flight, we are happy to quote the holiday price for land only. This means that both the flight cost and the transfers will be deducted. If we cancel your holiday due to low numbers, we will not be responsible for your flights. Please note that there may be occasions when we are unable to offer a land only package in order to manage our committed seats and hotel rooms.

Is there any advantage to booking early?

Yes. On some of our holidays for singles there are limited places so early booking is encouraged. If you choose to book later, we may not be able to confirm your place straight away and, if we’ve already filled our flight and hotel allocations, there may be a supplement to pay for additional places. So yes, it definitely pays to book early.

Is my money safe?

The air holiday packages and flights in this brochure are ATOL (Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing) protected by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) – our ATOL number is 4029. ATOL protects you from losing your money or from being stranded abroad. It does this by carrying out checks on the tour operators and travel organisers it licenses, to ensure they are financially able to carry out their business. However, if a tour operator does go out of business, the CAA will ensure you do not lose the money you have paid. Or, if you’re abroad, they will arrange for you to finish your single holiday and fly home. Our holidays are also financially protected by ABTOT (Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust) – our ABTOT number is 5206. Please see our Solos Holidays Booking Agreement.
