Algarve

The Algarve is famous for its unique coastal landscapes and golden sandy beaches. Blessed with a stunning coastline, rocky coves, sweeping beaches and crescent shaped bays, it is easy to see why Algarve is an award winning destination. The Atlantic, is livelier than its Mediterranean neighbours, which is an added bonus for those that like to get to grips with water sports like jet skiing, windsurfing or paragliding. However, for those that just want to lay on the sandy beach, Algarve really is the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy some Portuguese sun – a great combination for a Solos summer sun holiday.

Out & about in Albufeira

Why not take a break from the beach and venture into Albufeira, which is just 10 minutes from our hotel. Known as the “Capital of Tourism”, it is a charming old town with very mixed architecture. You can visit the charming churches, some of which dates back to the 1500s, or alternatively, discover the cobbled alleyways where you can sit back and relax with a coffee and traditional Portuguese custard tart. The marina in Albufeira cannot be missed, as all the buildings and apartments are painted in blue, pink, green and yellow squares! This is a brilliant spot to spend the afternoon and have a drink and meal, or you can just sit in the sun and watch the boats and people strolling by. For those that are in search of some lively nightlife, the famous Avenida Dr Francisco Sa Carneiro or “the strip” is where you will want to be when the sun goes down. An array of bars, clubs, restaurants and shops can all be found here. A great place to spend your evenings whilst on holiday.

Praia Da Gale

Our hotel is located in the peaceful resort of Praia Da Gale in central Algarve. The resort boasts a beautiful 5km powdery sand beach and our hotel is just a 10 minute walk from it. Here we can easily spend the day taking in the gorgeous Portuguese sunshine and people watch and take a dip into the sea that can reach up to 18 degrees in the height of the summer. Or alternatively, we can grab a bite to eat in one of the handful of lovely sea-view restaurants. This resort was once part of an agricultural town, and this can be seen with the numerous shady orange groves and fig trees dotted around. There are a number of family run restaurants in the village, offering authentic Portuguese dishes most of which (of course) serve local, freshly caught fish as part of their menu.

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of €15.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.

Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear - particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms followed by scorching days!
