After breakfast, we continue onto Prejmer. The first of many UNESCO World Heritage Sites on our tour, we visit one of Romania’s most impressive fortified churches. After enjoying lunch, we move onto Sighisoara, rumoured to be the birthplace of Dracula himself. A medieval Citadel, we’ll walk its cobblestone streets, colourful buildings and historic architecture. Here, we’ll spend the next two nights.
This morning we head to Sibiu, the cultural capital of Transylvania. Here we visit Brukenthal Museum, the oldest in the country. It houses an impressive collection of European art, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, spanning from the medieval period to the 19th-century.
On our return to Sighisoara, we stop at Biertan, famous for its fortified church. A UNESCO World Heritage Site – it offers us a glimpse into Transylvanian rural life.
We leave Sighisoara after breakfast as we travel south to Brasov via Viscri. On arrival into Basrov, we take an orientation tour of the city. Known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and stunning natural surroundings, Brasov is also the gateway to the Carpathian Mountains. Here, we spend the next two nights.
After breakfast, we get to visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești. One of the largest brown bear sanctuaries in Europe, it provides a safe haven for rescued bears previously held in captivity. See bears in a semi-natural environment, while learning about wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting bears and their habitats.
Next, we journey to the mysterious Bran Castle, famously known as Dracula’s Castle. Perched dramatically on a rocky hilltop in the picturesque Carpathian Mountains, the castle’s rich history dates back to the 14th-century. Our tour takes us into the eerie world of Count Dracula as we explore the halls and corridors, learn about fascinating folklore and discover why this legendary landmark continues to captivate imaginations around the world.
We continue south this morning to Bucharest, stopping en route in Sinaia, where we visit the beautiful Peles Castle. Nestled in the picturesque Carpathian Mountains, Peles Castle boast 160 rooms of Neo Renaissance architecture, intricate woodwork and stunning stain-glassed windows. We continue onto Bucharest where we remain for the next two nights.
We set out on a walking tour of Bucharest this morning. We see beautiful sights such as the Romanian Athenaeum & The National Art Gallery, as well as having time to explore the historical charm of the Old Town – the heart of Bucharest since the Middle Ages. After some free time this afternoon, we meet for our farewell dinner.
Say ‘la revedere’ to Bucharest, as we return to the UK today.
We stay in comfortable hotels throughout as detailed below (or similar).
It is approx. two hours transfer from Bucharest Airport to Sinaia. From Bucharest centre, it’s approx. 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
Dressing in layers with casual evening wear is recommended with comfortable footwear and sunglasses.
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.
The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff of approximately €40. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
