Extras
Welcome to fabulous Kenya! Upon arrival at Nairobi International Airport, we’ll proceed through immigration, collect our luggage and transfer to our hotel.
After breakfast at our hotel we will drive to Amboseli National Park, a park that’s famous for its breath-taking views of Kilimanjaro. The park also shelters over 420 species of birds. We will enjoy lunch at the lodge before setting off on an afternoon game drive. Afterwards we will return to the lodge and enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with other Solos guests.
Today we’ll rise early to witness spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro before the clouds build up over the summit. In the morning, we’ll set off for a game drive; Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from wildebeest to giraffes to baboons. Midday finds us at our lodge for lunch and an afternoon rest, followed by another game drive. In the evening, we will gather together for dinner.
After an early breakfast we will drive to the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha, arriving at the lodge in time for lunch. Afterwards we will enjoy an afternoon boat ride in Lake Naivasha with a magnificent view of Mount Longonot, hippos and over 400 species of birds on the island – a perfect photo opportunity! The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.
After an early breakfast we will depart and drive overland to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve – Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary, where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight. The climate here is gentle and rarely too hot with well spread rainfall all year round. We will arrive in time for lunch at our lodge. Afterwards we will enjoy an extensive game drive in the reserve.
Today we can enjoy an optional (extra cost) early morning hot air balloon flight over the Mara Plains followed by a bubbly bush breakfast, or an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Mid-morning we will enjoy a game drive in the reserve followed by lunch at the lodge. Come late afternoon, we will head out for an extensive game drive in the reserve.
After an early breakfast at the lodge we will drive to Nairobi. On arrival we will transfer to Tamambo Brasserie for lunch. After lunch, we will visit Karen Blixon’s house and the Giraffe Centre before later transferring to the Carnivore restaurant for a farewell dinner.
After breakfast at the hotel we will have a day at leisure before our late evening flight home. We can leave our bags at our hotel and enjoy free day before our early evening transfer to the airport.
We stay in comfortable hotels throughout as detailed below (or similar)
Visa
On 12 December 2023 the President of Kenya announced that Kenya would be visa-free from January 2024.
Visitors to Kenya are now required to apply online for an electronic travel authorisation in advance of travel. Some exemptions apply and can be found in full on the website of the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority.
Travellers who currently hold a valid visa can continue to travel using their visa until its expiry.
Your specific passport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements are your sole responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates of the countries in which you are planning to travel.

Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Kenya. Make sure you have two blank pages in your passport on arrival.
The transfer time from Nairobi Airport to your hotel in Nairobi is approximately 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Kenyan shilling (KES)
US Dollars and Kenya Shillings are accepted widely. However if you have GBP and EUR they will be accepted too. Lots of places change currency. The bills at the lodges can also be paid by credit cards.
The price was always more favourable in the local currency and it was necessary to have small notes – 100 or 200 KES for tipping of porters, housekeeping etc. The best way to get the local currency is using one of the ATM’s at the airport.
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £60.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
A sightseeing programme is included in your touring package.
Please note
Full details of all the excursions available will be advised at the Information meeting. Prices may vary, depending on numbers etc and are only a guideline. Your Tour Leader will be happy to arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you. Please also note that prices are dependent on minimum numbers and may cost more if the minimum is not reached.
Hot Air Balloon flight over the Mara Plains followed by a bubbly bush breakfast £450 per person if booked before departure and approx. USD $505 if booked locally.
You can also visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant orphanage before our late evening flight home. It costs approx USD $80 per person (entrance fees+ Nairobi National Park entrance fees + transfer) and has to be booked locally. Prices may vary, depending on numbers etc and are only a guideline. This is very popular excursion with number restrictions for animal welfare therefore subject to availability.
The emphasis is on casual clothing for throughout. Comfortable shoes or walking boots are recommended. Dressing in layers and waterproofs to allow for changes in the weather is recommended. Please bring some warm clothing for example a fleece and warm outer jacket for the evenings and early mornings. On safari, it is advisable to wear long sleeves and trousers to provide protection against insect bites. On safari avoid clothes with very bright colours as this may irritate the animals, preferably wear clothes with brown, khaki or beige colours. Binoculars are also recommended. A cap or wide brimmed hat to protect from the sun and sunglasses are recommended.
