Extras
Welcome to Slovenia! After arriving at Ljubljana Airport we’ll head to our hotel in the city of Ljubljana. After check in at Grand Hotel Union, as it will be a late arrival, a dinner box will be waiting for us in our rooms.
After breakfast we will begin our guided walking tour of Ljubljana. On this walking tour we will stroll along medieval streets, admire an interesting blend of different architectural styles and hear stories and fairy tales that connect the present and the past. The area on either side of the river that winds its way through the old town centre, with its picturesque bridges and the central market, owes its distinctive appearance to the great European architect Jože Plečnik. Plečnik’s Ljubljana, one of the most important “total” works of art of the twentieth century, is an urban-planning phenomenon of worldwide renown.
After breakfast we meet in reception at 09:30h and transfer to Bled (approx. 1 hour). Bled is a Slovenian resort town in the foothills of the Julian Alps, set along the glacial Lake Bled. For centuries it has been a symbol of natural beauty and home to fairy tales. Ascend the old 12th-century castle, perched on top of a steep cliff with spectacular views of the lake, the famous Bled Island and the surrounding peaks. The castle is not only home to fairy tale weddings, cultural events and important protocol meetings, but also a museum of manual printing and a wine cellar. We will discover Slovenia’s most spectacular site – the famous Bled with its iconic lake and the one and only island in Slovenia.
Today is free for you to explore Ljubljana independently.
After breakfast we’ll have some further free time in Ljubljana before our transfer to the airport for our return flight home.
The Grand Hotel Union was constructed in 1905 and is Art Nouveau in style. The charming 4-star hotel stands on the doorstep of Ljubljana’s historical city centre. Ljubljana old town, the river promenade and Ljubljana castle and cathedral are all within easy walking distance making this the ideal hotel location for a city break.
Grand Hotel Union offers a range of amenities including a restaurant, bar and cafe. Guests can also benefit from an indoor swimming pool with views of Ljubljana castle, gym and sauna in the adjacent Hotel. WIFI is available throughout the hotel.
Our modern ensuite comfort double rooms include flat-screen TV with international cable channels, bathrobe and slippers, hairdryer, mini refrigerator, safe and free wireless internet.
The transfer time from Ljubljana International Airport to your hotel in Ljubljana is approximately 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Euro
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum €15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
2-hour guided walking visit of Ljubljana is included in your touring package and Bled tour with entrance to Bled Castle is also included.
Please note
The dress code during the day is casual. Dressing in layers with warm, casual evening wear is recommended. Comfortable footwear is a must for sightseeing. Warm clothing is suggested for the December departure including warm socks, gloves, hat and scarf.
