This evening. we visit the bustling night markets of Chinatown. We stroll through the open-air market and test our bargaining skills for a wide variety of merchandises. We stop at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple located in the heart of Chinatown. As we explore the temple, the smell of burning jasmine, the incessant chanting of the Hindu priest, intricately carved deities and the mystical aura combines to form a lasting impression of this religion. Afterwards, we enjoy a welcome dinner to get to know our fellow travellers.
After breakfast, we meet our guide for our visit to meet the indigenous people of the Orang Asli. We will be greeted by the local representative at the museum, which we will visit. We will be shown how to cook in a bamboo and meet a local lady who will show us how to weave various handicrafts.
We then continue on to Kuala Lumpur. Though this city is better known for its modern high-rise skyscrapers and busy modern streets, we begin our tour at a typical Malay village. We stroll down the streets to find Malaysian style food stalls and marvel at the contrast of traditional small Malay houses against the backdrop of the famous twin towers and huge skyscrapers. We then take a leisurely stroll along the riverbank to witness the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers, the very spot that gave Kuala Lumpur its name.

The Labu Sayong is an elegant, gourd shaped carafe that is used to keep water cool. The jug, with the characteristic double bulb design, is burnt to a black colour that gives it the ability to cool its contents quickly. It is even believed that the drinking water stored in the Labu Sayong has certain health properties to cure common ailments like a cough or fever.

In keeping with many Muslim countries, you will find that people in the capital city and other major towns are used to foreigners, and are therefore likely to be more tolerant and more liberal. However, away from the tourist areas, the population is more traditional and rigid so please be sure to cover your shoulders, stomach, hips and bare legs. It is hot and humid so we suggest that lightweight clothes in natural fibres (linen, silk or cotton) will be most comfortable. T-shirts and shorts are perfectly acceptable, but avoid skimpy or revealing clothes or you will get unwanted attention. Smart casual evening wear is recommended and comfortable shoes for sightseeing. Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and mosquito repellent can be very useful during your stay.
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.
The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday of $5-7 per day to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
