In the centre of the Marmilla region, in the valley of the Mannu river, at the foot of the Giara, there is a special atmosphere: ever since prehistoric times, Barumini was the main centre of a very rich territory, with a population of approximately one thousand 300 inhabitants today. It is one of the most captivating places of culture on the island. At the entrance to the residential area, there is a monumental complex that has made it world famous: Su Nuraxi, the only archaeological site in Sardinia declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1997). Not only is it the most impressive (and most well-preserved) of the thirty Nuragic sites, but it is, above all, the most precious inheritance left to us by
the Nuragic civilization. The archaeological excavations took place in the middle of the 20th century by Giovanni Lilliu.
An inimitable spectacle of nature about 60 kilometres from Cagliari, in southern Sardinia: a plateau of volcanic origin, home to horses unique in Europe. An island within an island, a magical place with unique characteristics. The Giara is a basaltic plateau on the border between Marmilla and Sarcidano. It rises abruptly to 550 metres, dominating the flat surrounding landscape, undulated only by ‘soft’, fertile hills. On the summit, twelve kilometres long and slightly sloping, an ecosystem with rare animals and plants is preserved.

Full Day Excursion to Cagliari
The capital of Sardinia is steeped in Mediterranean history and offers everything you could want from a vacation: history and art, seashores and parks, comfort and fine cuisine. Cagliari is the main and most populous city on the island, at the centre of a metropolitan area of 430,000 inhabitants (over 150 in the capital alone), as well as the gateway to Sardinia and the Mediterranean cruise hub. In its four historic quarters, it preserves millenary events ranging from pre-history to the rule of the House of Savoy. The Castello district rises on the highest hill, characterised by ancient bastions, now terraces where the nightlife bustles, and picturesque narrow streets lined with noble residences: Palazzo Regio and Palazzo di Città, as well as the cathedral of Santa Maria. Of great charm are the medieval towers at the entrance to the castle, the Elephant and St. Pancrazio towers.

Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket.
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €25.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage add on.
