Why not head to Malta – a Mediterranean escape full of fun and cultural distractions. We stay in the lovely resort of Sliema on Malta’s north-eastern coast. A fascinating melting pot of contrasts, this classic year round destination is the perfect place to kick back and relax with your fellow solo travellers.
Extras
Our base for the week will be the beautiful four-star Preluna Hotel on Sliema’s sea-front promenade. The hotel is the perfect place to soak up all that Malta has to offer. Enjoy some of the best facilities on the island, or relax in the hotel’s ‘Feel Good Wellness Spa’ with its indoor pool, jacuzzi, treatment rooms and fitness centre, before watching the sunset from the stunning rooftop bar.
Sliema has long been a favourite for solo travellers looking for a combination of sun, sea and shopping, with sophisticated bars and designer shops found along two well-known coastal roads. Our hotel offers gorgeous views of Sliema Creek, Manoel Island and the distinctive profile of the capital Valletta is not too far away.
Easy to get around, the island and its capital, Valletta (4km away) beg to be explored. There are colourful museums and theatres amid the chequerboard of streets, and grand palaces linked to the Knights of St. John, as well as both rocky and sandy beaches. Stroll down the Republic Street of Valletta where shops sell delicate ceramics and lace. Visit aristocratic mansions or tour the state rooms of the Grand Master’s Palace.
Another suggestion is to travel inland to Mdina, the former capital. Discover the ‘Silent City’, so named because of the tranquillity of its narrow streets that entwine like a maze, springing lovely surprises around every corner, from Baroque palazzos to haunts once home to feudal lords of the Spanish Crown.
Situated right on the Sliema promenade, this sought after hotel is a perfect escape for a winter sun break. With a fabulous surrounding area, we can find bars and restaurants all nearby.
Facilities include an four restaurants, cocktail bar, lobby bar and cafe. Wellness spa (additional charges apply) heated indoor swimming pool, gym and WIFI. Please note the outdoor pool is closed from October to May.
Our comfortable sea view rooms include air conditioning, TV, Tea & coffee making facilities, telephone, hairdryer, safe and free WiFi
The transfer from the airport to the hotel is approximately 20 minutes.
These are just a few of the tours, which may be available to you depending on the time of year and the numbers interested. Full details of all the excursions available will be advised at the Information Meeting All tours should be paid for in Euros and the exact amount will be given at your Information Meeting. Your Tour Leader will help arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you.
Please note:- Optional excursions are not guaranteed and are based on minimum numbers. The prices quoted are guideline only and may involve other non-Solos holidaymakers.
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of €20.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.
Medium weights for Winter. Casual “layers” for the autumn and spring months and a warm jacket is recommended for the cool mornings and evenings. Comfortable shoes are a “must” for sightseeing. The hotel prefers reasonably smart dress for dinner – gentlemen are asked to wear long trousers and a formal shirt.
