Our base for the week will be the beautiful 4-star Preluna Hotel set on Sliema’s sea-front promenade. The hotel is the perfect place to relax and soak up the enchanting surroundings, while enjoying some of the best facilities on the island. Wallow in the hotel's heated outdoor Jacuzzi, before watching the sunset from the stunning rooftop terrace. Situated right on the promenade, we are also a short distance from Sliema’s bars, shops and restaurants, giving you easy access to the array of drinking and dining options that sit right on your doorstep.
Sliema has long been a favourite with tourist looking for a combination of sun, sea and shopping, with sophisticated bars and designer shops can be found along two well known coastal roads. Our hotel offers gorgeous views of Sliema Creek, Manoel Island and the distinctive profile of the capital Valletta not too far away. The promenade is within walking distance where we can find atmospheric restaurants, bars and enticing shops. On those cooler days we can relax in the indoor heated swimming pool or catch some rays on the sun terrace. The best beaches are just a few minutes away and easily accessible by public transport. Evenings can be filled with music in and out of town and sampling a cisk (the local brew).
Easy to get around, the island and its capital, Valletta (4km away) beg to be explored. There are colourful museums and theatres amid the chequerboard of streets, and grand palaces linked to the Knights of St. John, as well as both rocky and sandy beaches. Stroll down the Republic Street of Valletta where shops sell delicate ceramics and lace. Visit aristocratic mansions or tour the state rooms of the Grand Master's Palace.
Another suggestion is to travel inland to Mdina, the former capital. Discover the 'Silent City', so named because of the tranquillity of its narrow streets which entwine like a maze, springing lovely surprises around every corner, from Baroque palazzos to haunts once home to feudal lords of the Spanish Crown.

GratuitiesThere is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of €20.00. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.
